What is the cause of pancreatic islet cell tumor

Islet cell carcinoma is a common tumor disease, which is clinically divided into functional and non-functional types. Due to local lymphatic lesions and functional disorders, many people often only know about it after medical examinations. Because this disease is not very common at present, even after it is detected, many people have no way to truly understand the condition.

What is pancreatic islet cell tumor

Islet cell tumors are also called islet cell adenomas. A tumor that develops in the pancreatic islet cells. Pancreatic islet cell tumors are divided into two categories: functional and nonfunctional. Functional islet cell tumors are mainly insulinomas, which are formed by β cells and are rare in clinical practice. According to foreign statistics, the incidence rate is (3-4)/million.

Pancreatic islets are composed of a variety of cells with different functions, and pancreatic endocrine tumors with different cell sources exhibit different clinical symptoms. Islet cell tumors are named according to the major hormone they produce and include insulinomas and gastrinomas. All pancreatic endocrine tumors are difficult to differentiate based on routine histological examinations. Whether they are malignant is determined based on the presence or absence of local invasion and regional lymph node, liver or distant metastasis.

Insulinoma is a rare tumor arising from pancreatic B cells, but is the most common pancreatic endocrine tumor.

About 95% are benign, with a male to female ratio of approximately 2:1. They are distributed in the head, body or tail of the pancreas, and the tumor diameter is mostly between 1-2.5 cm. Typical symptoms are spontaneous hypoglycemia in the early morning, which may also be induced by delayed meals, exercise, fatigue, mental stimulation or fever. Symptoms are relieved after administration of glucose. In order to avoid attacks, patients often increase their meals and become obese.
