What are the treatments for chondroma

Chondroma is a relatively common benign bone tumor, which mostly occurs in the medullary cavity. Investigations have found that chondroma rarely becomes malignant and has the characteristics of symmetrical growth. If the growth is not obvious, treatment is generally not required, and more follow-up examinations are required. For those with more obvious symptoms, resection surgery or bone grafting can be performed for treatment.

1. Rarely malignant transformation

Chondromas are more common in single tumors, while multiple tumors are less common. Chondromas are characterized by symmetrical growth and are accompanied by limb malformations, also known as enchondromatosis. Those occurring on one side of the limb are also known as Ollier's disease. Chondromas located in the pelvis, sternum, ribs, long bones of the limbs or vertebrae are prone to malignant transformation; chondromas occurring in the bones of the fingers (toes) rarely become malignant.

2. Local en bloc resection and bone grafting.

The pathological changes of endochondromas of short tubular bones may appear quite malignant, but they are actually benign. When pathologically examined, enchondromas of the long bones of the trunk or limbs may appear quite benign, but they have a 10-15% recurrence and malignant transformation rate. When choosing a treatment method, it should be noted that for enchondromas located in the hands and feet, thorough scraping, 50% zinc chloride can be used to cauterize the bone wall, and can be filled with cancellous bone fragments for bone grafting. For those located in the long bones of the trunk and limbs, it is generally considered appropriate to use local en bloc resection and bone grafting.

3. Regular review

Osteochondromas are generally benign lesions. If they are small, they can be checked regularly. Some people do not need to treat them if there is no change. However, if they are significantly enlarged or cause obvious pain during regular checkups, timely surgical treatment should be considered. Drug treatment is ineffective. The specific doctor will treat you according to your specific situation.

If the disease is benign and does not affect your life, no special treatment is generally required. It can be combined with the Chinese medicine ginsenoside rh2 for treatment, which can inhibit the growth and spread of tumor cells, induce tumor apoptosis, and enhance the patient's physical fitness and disease resistance. Jinxiong Capsules from Yak Pharmaceutical are currently the products with the highest content of ginsenoside rh2.
