What are the symptoms of eye tumors

Eye tumor is a malignant eye disease. Its cause may be excessive use of eyes and then lack of attention to eye care leading to viral invasion. Heredity is also a reason. In the early stages of eye tumors, the only symptoms may be glaucoma, astigmatism, etc. At this time, active treatment should be given. Let’s take a closer look at some of the symptoms of eye tumors.

Symptoms of eye tumors:

(1) Eyelid hemangioma

It is a congenital vascular malformation that exists at birth in most cases and gradually increases in size with age, usually occurring in one eye. Clinically, they are divided into two types: ① Capillary hemangioma, also called vascular nevus. It grows inside the eyelid skin and can affect both the upper and lower eyelids. It starts as a small dark red dot, flat or slightly raised, and may later grow into a lobed or nodular mass. It generally grows slowly, and some do not change throughout life. ② Cavernous hemangioma, which mostly grows under the eyelid skin or under the bulbar conjunctiva, is purple-blue grape-shaped protrusion, soft and slightly elastic, and can disappear temporarily when pressed. When crying or lowering the head, the tumor will rapidly increase in size or deepen in color, and sometimes it can be felt to beat.

(2) Mole

Also called pigmented nevus, some people call it benign melanoma. It is usually present at birth, grows rapidly during infancy, then gradually increases in size, and tends to stabilize in adulthood. They mostly grow on the inner and outer canthus and eyelid margins; their number and size vary, with small ones as big as rice grains and large ones extending to the entire eyelid; they are brown-black or brown-gray in color, slightly higher than the skin, with a flat surface, and may have hair growing on them. Some black moles are symmetrically divided into half of the upper and lower eyelids, and merge into one when the eyes are closed. This type of mole is called a split nevus. Most moles are benign, but if they grow rapidly in a short period of time, their color suddenly darkens, they become eroded and bleeding on the surface, or there is inflammation around them, you should consult a doctor promptly.

(3) Xanthomas of the eyelids

It is common in the elderly, more common in women than in men, and often with increased blood lipids or cholesterol. They usually occur on the inner side of the upper eyelid, are symmetrical in both eyes, and vary in number and size. The tumor is a light yellow, flat protrusion that is slightly higher than the skin. It is not swollen or painful and develops very slowly.

(4) Epidermoid and dermoid cysts

Most of them are caused by congenital developmental abnormalities, but can also be caused by trauma or local inflammation. Located in the subcutaneous tissue, it is as small as a broad bean or as big as a bird egg. It has a smooth surface, soft texture, is slightly elastic, and generally has no feeling. Dermoid cysts are generally not adhered to the skin, but are connected to the periosteum and can grow along bone sutures. It is often found on the inner and outer sides of the orbital rim under the skin. The cyst cavity contains sebaceous gland-like oil and may also contain hair.

(5) Eyelid papilloma

It often occurs at the edge of the eyelid. The tumors are as big as needle handles, densely arranged, light red and raised, and itchy. When it grows up, it will look like bayberry and bleed easily when scratched. Some patients may have the possibility of malignant transformation.
