The bark is purple-brown, and the winter buds are covered by stipules, which fall off after opening. Simple leaves are alternate and clustered at the top of the twigs. The leaves are elliptical-obovate, 20-45cm long and 10-25cm wide, with obtuse or short tips, cuneate or rounded base, entire or wavy margins, and covered with short grayish-white hairs on the back when young and white powdery when old. The aggregate fruit is ovate-elliptical, woody, with one seed in each chamber. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from September to October. 2. Pharmacological effects of magnolol Magnolia officinalis has obvious and lasting central muscle relaxation, central nervous system inhibition, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-pathogenic microorganism, anti-ulcer, antioxidant, anti-tumor, inhibition of morphine withdrawal reaction, inhibition of platelet aggregation and other pharmacological effects. It is used to treat acute enteritis, bacterial or amoebic dysentery, chronic gastritis, etc. Among them, in terms of antibacterial effect, magnolol has significant antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, acid-resistant bacteria, and filamentous fungi, has a more significant antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans, and has the strongest inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus.
