Why do my ears always itch?

Everyone must have experienced itchy ears and can't help scratching them with their hands. In fact, there are many reasons for itchy ears. Sometimes it is due to excessive earwax, sometimes it is caused by ear inflammation, and people with allergies are also prone to itchy ears.

1. Excessive earwax

Itching inside the ear is caused by irritation of the local skin by earwax secretions. Mold, allergies or too dry. People who often pick their ears will pick out all the earwax in a short time. The ear skin will become too dry and itchy, which will make them want to pick their ears again. After picking, it will become even more itchy, and this vicious cycle will get worse and worse.

2. Ear inflammation

If itching around the ear opening occurs frequently, it is often caused by external otitis, external auditory canal eczema, and external auditory canal fungal disease. Among them, otitis media is the most common. Otitis media, commonly known as "rotten ears", is an inflammation of the tympanic cavity mucosa. When the bacteria enter the tympanic cavity, inflammation occurs when the resistance is weakened or the bacterial toxins are enhanced, which manifests as ear pain (worse at night), fever, chills, bitter taste in the mouth, red or yellow urine, constipation, hearing loss, etc.

3. Dry ears

People who often pick their ears will pick out all the earwax in a short time. The ear skin will become too dry and itchy, which will make them want to pick their ears again. After picking, it will become even more itchy, and this vicious cycle will get worse and worse.

4. Allergic constitution

Patients with allergic constitution or ear pus are prone to external auditory canal eczema. At the beginning, the ear canal becomes red and blisters appear, and yellow fluid oozes out after scratching. During the rainy season, unclean ear digging can bring fungi into the ear canal, causing itching and exudation symptoms similar to tinea pedis.

5. Demodex

Demodex, commonly known as hair follicle mites or lipid mites, can parasitize in the hair follicles or sebaceous glands of the skin of humans and mammals. This mite can be found on the body surface of quite a number of healthy people, but the cheeks are the main "disaster area". It is well known that rosacea is caused by it, and it is also responsible for ear itching.

6. Diabetes

The elderly are more prone to diabetes, and itching all over the body is also related to it. Applying natural insulin to the external auditory canal has a significant anti-itching effect.

Do we have a certain understanding of the reasons for itchy ears introduced above? Itchy ears are not always caused by earwax, so we should also pay attention to it. It may be caused by other reasons, and we must find the cause and treat it.
