What does it mean when there are 2 plus signs in urine protein?

Routine urine test is the basic test for kidney disease examination. Some people will see the result of urine protein 2+ after receiving the report. What does this mean? Some people may worry whether they have kidney disease or that their condition is serious. In fact, this result cannot prove that you have kidney disease. Whether you are sick or not needs to be combined with other examinations.

What is the cause of 2 plus signs in urine protein?

If there are two plus signs in urine protein and the possibility of physiological urine protein is ruled out, it can be determined to a large extent that the production of urine protein is caused by kidney damage.

In most cases, healthy people have only a small amount of urine protein in their urine, generally 40-80 mg, and a maximum of 150 mg, which is called physiological urine protein. Due to the small amount, routine urine tests are negative. If it exceeds 150 mg/day, it means that the urine protein is high.

Two plus signs of urine protein may also be due to various other factors, causing the body's regulatory mechanism to be disordered. When encountering factors such as colds and infections, it will lead to immune allergic reactions. Anti-inflammatory antibodies will combine to produce immune complexes, leading to local kidney tissue ischemia and hypoxia, endothelial cells will be damaged, and inflammatory cells will be attracted to infiltrate, thereby producing an inflammatory reaction, and renal tissue fibrosis will be initiated. At the same time, pathological changes will occur in the kidney's inherent cells, resulting in the leakage of large molecular proteins and red blood cells that cannot leak out by themselves. At the same time, the renal tubular reabsorption function is impaired, so urine protein appears in clinical tests.
