Can I eat peanuts if I often have high blood sugar?

If your blood sugar level is often higher than the standard level in your life, you need to control your diet. Foods high in calories and sugar are not to be consumed. Peanuts contain high calories and are not suitable for patients with high blood sugar.

1. Peanuts are high in calories and are not conducive to blood sugar control.

Every 100 grams of peanuts contains 589 kcal, which is more calories than the same weight of rice, pork, mutton, chicken and duck. The energy provided by 20 medium-sized peanuts is equivalent to 50 grams of rice. The most important dietary principle for diabetic patients is to control the total energy intake per day, so it is generally not recommended for diabetic patients to eat peanuts in large quantities, and they must eat them in "moderate amounts". When designing a diabetic diet, the energy provided by peanuts should be included in the total energy for the day. The fat content of peanuts is also particularly high, with nearly half of them being fat.

Most nutritionists will tell you that eating 18 peanuts is equivalent to eating a spoonful of oil (10 grams), which means that peanuts are high in fat. Unrestricted consumption of peanuts will increase calorie and fat intake, cause weight gain, and increase blood lipids, which is not conducive to the control of blood sugar and blood pressure. Therefore, it is not advisable to eat too many peanuts, especially candied peanuts.

2. People with diabetes should not eat too many peanuts.

Eating more peanuts is not conducive to the control of the disease for diabetic patients. Peanuts contain a lot of oil. 20 peanuts are equivalent to 10 grams of oil, which can produce 90 kcal of calories. It takes about 1 hour of walking to burn off 90 kcal of calories. Diabetic patients need to control their total daily energy intake. They should not use more than 30 grams of cooking oil per day, and generally eat more than 20 peanuts. Eating too much peanuts, combined with other oils used in dishes, the human body's intake of edible oil often exceeds 30 grams. In addition, peanuts are also high in fat. 100 grams of peanuts contain about 25 grams of fat. Eating 100 grams of fried peanuts is equivalent to eating 581 kcal of energy, which is equivalent to eating 275 grams of steamed buns. This is obviously not conducive to diabetic patients controlling their weight and may aggravate their condition.

3. A small amount of peanuts is helpful for diabetics.

Professor Jeya Hcmy of Oxford Brookes University in the UK also cited a research result. There were 356 subjects in total, of which 203 had type 1 diabetes and 153 had type 2 diabetes. After the subjects consumed low-glycemic index foods (including peanuts and their products, rye flakes, whole-wheat crisps, lentils, etc.) for 10 weeks, their glycosylated hemoglobin (HhAIc) dropped to 0.4% and fructosamine dropped to 0.2 mmol/L. The reduction of glycosylated hemoglobin is of great clinical significance for diabetic patients.
