Language training methods for autism

The appearance of children with autism has put many parents in endless pain. In fact, early detection and intervention of children with autism can alleviate the pain to a certain extent. Strengthening language training and constantly talking to these children can also help.

1. Talk to children constantly:

The effect of talking to autistic children is not immediate, and it will take time to bear fruit.

(ii) Talking to the child’s eye level:

When playing with an autistic child, giving him anything, asking him to do anything, and helping him do anything, always speak simple words to him. First call his name "×××", and then talk to him when he pays attention to you calling him. Children with autism often do not look at people. Sometimes it’s not that they don’t look at people at all, but that they only look for a very short time. Talking to him when he's not paying attention to you is ineffective. But there is no need to lean closer to an older child or turn his head to talk to him. Just stand not too far away, call his name naturally, and speak to him according to the situation.

(III) Choose a topic that fits the situation:

Natural topics that are visible and easy to understand are preferred. The effect is especially better if the topic is things that children care about or like. Not only do adults talk to children, but they can also speak to them in the child's voice to let them know what they should say or respond to.

(IV) No need to repeat the exercise too many times:

In order to make their children learn to speak, parents ask them to say the same words five or ten times, which sometimes makes the autistic children refuse to speak. Just say it one or twice more than you would to other children, and do not repeat the same thing in the same place more than twice. But when the same thing or the same situation occurs, you should repeat the reminder. There is no need to teach deliberately. As long as you speak to your child continuously and naturally in an appropriate environment, so that the child can understand the meaning of language, you can expect him to gradually be able to speak.

(V) No need to correct pronunciation:

Even if you can't speak well, it's enough to have the gesture to express your meaning. If you deliberately correct your pronunciation, it may wipe out the motivation to speak that you have worked so hard to cultivate. As long as he is willing to speak, the defect of incorrect pronunciation will improve over time. Parents or adults only need to provide the correct speaking templates, but never learn to speak like children.
