Urine test pH

Urine test pH

The acidity and alkalinity of urine test is what we usually call the pH value of urine. It is one of the items in routine urine examination. The normal acidity and alkalinity value of urine test is weakly acidic. If it is neutral or weakly alkaline, it is generally closely related to diet. If the value is too alkaline or acidic, it is abnormal. The doctor will give a diagnosis and treatment based on the results of other tests.

The pH value of urine test is also closely related to the use of certain drugs. Therefore, if you are taking certain drugs when doing urine test, you should tell your doctor clearly to avoid affecting your medical treatment. Some medical factors can also cause changes in the pH value of urine test, such as fever, ventilation, kidney disease, etc. Let us learn about the relevant content of the pH value of urine test, and hope it will be helpful to your treatment.

Introduction

1 Uric acid alkalinity (urine pH) English abbreviation: pH

Reference value: 5-7

Uric acid alkalinity (pH) is one of the main examination indicators of urine routine. Urine acidity and alkalinity can reflect the kidney's ability to regulate the acid-base balance of body fluids. The normal reference range is 5.0-8.0.

The human body can excrete a large amount of acidic and alkaline substances through urine to maintain the acid-base balance in the body. The normal 24-hour mixed urine is slightly acidic with a pH of 5.5. Sometimes it can be neutral or weakly alkaline, with a fluctuation range of 5.4-8.4. It is closely related to diet. After eating protein-rich foods such as meat, the urine is mostly acidic; if you eat more fruits and vegetables, the urine is mostly alkaline. After meals, urine is mostly acidic due to the influence of gastric acid secretion. If the urine acidity or alkalinity is not good, corresponding diseases will occur. Under normal dietary conditions, morning urine is mostly weakly acidic, with an acid-base level of 5.5-6.5; random uric acid alkalinity is 4.6-8.0. If there are corresponding highs and lows, the kidney's regulation of body fluid acidity and alkalinity will be unbalanced and corresponding diseases will occur.

2 Level Division

The pH results measured by the widely used urine analyzer have only eight levels: 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, and 9, while the urine pH values measured using other methods may have more detailed divisions.

3. Alkaline causes

1. Food factors - after eating a lot of vegetables and fruits;

2. Drug factors - taking alkaline drugs such as sodium bicarbonate, thiazide diuretics, etc.;

3. Pathological factors: alkali poisoning, renal tubular acidosis, pyelonephritis, etc.

4 Acidity Causes

1. Food factors - urine often becomes acidic after eating meat.

2. Drug factors - taking acidic drugs such as ammonium chloride and vitamin C can acidify the urine.

3. Pathological factors - fever, acidosis, gout, chronic kidney disease, leukemia, diabetes, etc. can make urine acidic.

5 Abnormal signs

When the body's metabolism is disturbed, the pH of urine may change significantly:

Increased pH

Paradoxical alkalinuria seen in metabolic alkaloid poisoning or renal tubular acidosis or hyperkalemic acidosis;

pH reduction

Abnormally acidic urine seen in metabolic acidosis or hypokalemic alkali poisoning.

Therefore, uric acid alkalinity can be used for auxiliary diagnosis in clinical practice.

Everyone is familiar with the relevant content of urine acidity and alkalinity test, so in daily diet, we should eat a balanced diet, avoid excessive partiality and picky eating, strengthen physical exercise appropriately, improve the body's resistance and immunity, so as to make the body healthier.
