What should I do about reflux esophagitis?

Patients with reflux esophagitis will definitely feel very uncomfortable because they will have upper abdominal pain and indigestion. Reflux esophagitis must be treated promptly, otherwise it will cause certain harm to the digestive system. A simple and effective way is to take appropriate medications.

1. General treatment

It is advisable to eat small meals frequently and not overeat; avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee, chocolate, acidic foods and excessive fat; avoid lying down immediately after a meal; when lying down, raise the head of the bed by 20 to 30 cm, and do not tie the belt too tightly to avoid various conditions that cause excessive abdominal pressure.

(ii) Promote the emptying of the esophagus and stomach

1. Dopamine antagonists: This type of drug can promote the emptying of the esophagus and stomach and increase the tension of the lower esophageal sphincter. Such drugs include metoclopramide (Metoclopramide) and domperidone (Motilium).

2. Cisapride: It can release acetylcholine through the postganglionic nerves of the myenteric plexus and promote the peristalsis and emptying of the esophagus and stomach, thereby alleviating gastroesophageal reflux.

3. Cholinergic drugs: Urantia choline can increase the tension of the lower esophageal sphincter, promote esophageal contraction, and accelerate the emptying of acidic food in the esophagus to improve symptoms.

(III) Reduce gastric acid

1. Antacids: They can neutralize gastric acid, thereby reducing the activity of pepsin and reducing the damage of acidic gastric contents to the esophageal mucosa.

2. Histamine H2 receptor antagonists: can strongly inhibit gastric acid secretion and improve gastroesophageal acid reflux. Commonly used ones include cimetidine, furosemide and famotidine.

3. Proton pump inhibitors: Meprazole and lansoprazole have been widely used in clinical practice.
