Introduction to the symptoms and treatment of cholangitis

1. Generally, diagnosis is not difficult based on the history and signs of upper abdominal pain and right upper abdominal tenderness. Children who seek medical treatment in the case of toxic shock should also be considered to have the possibility of this disease. Combining the symptoms, signs and rapid course of disease, accompanied by poor spirits, delirium, confusion or coma, a diagnosis can be made. If there is abdominal exudate, abdominal puncture can be performed. If green exudate is extracted, it can be confirmed as bile peritonitis.

2. The onset is often sudden, and most patients seek medical attention within 1 day after onset. The main symptoms are abdominal pain, high fever and congestion, and occasionally jaundice. The upper abdominal pain is continuous or intermittent dull pain, bloating or severe colic, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. High fever can cause convulsions, or poor spirits, delirium, coma and other symptoms. Jaundice is mild and short-lived.

3. Physical examination shows acute illness. The body temperature can remain above 38.5℃ and can reach as high as 41℃. There is obvious tenderness and tension in the right upper abdomen. Sometimes an enlarged gallbladder can be felt. In some severe cases, toxic shock is the main manifestation. After treatment, signs of peritonitis such as abdominal distension, tension and tenderness in the whole abdomen appear.

4. The peripheral blood shows an increase in the number of white blood cells, and there may be an increase in the number of neutrophils, a left shift of the nucleus, and toxic granules.
