What to do if you have a muscle strain

After a sprain, you must pay attention to confirm the severity of the injury. If the pain is obvious and the sprained part cannot move, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time. If it is only a minor sprain, you can apply hot compress to the local area to relieve the pain.

1. After a muscle strain, the first thing to do is to confirm the severity of the muscle by raising or shaking your arm to see if you experience severe pain. Generally, after a muscle is strained, there is severe pain at the strained site, and you can feel a cord-like lump formed by the muscle tension with your hand. It is obviously painful to touch, and there is local swelling or subcutaneous bleeding, and movement is significantly restricted.

2. If it is just a minor strain and the feeling is not very strong, but it will hurt when you lift heavy objects or raise your arm, it is recommended to apply hot compress to the most painful point. The condition will be alleviated a lot after hot compress and it will be better in two days.

3. If you feel severe pain at the moment of muscle strain, you should immediately take cold treatment, rinse the area with cold water or wrap ice cubes in a towel and apply cold compress until the pain and burning sensation are reduced.

4. After cold compress, wrap the injured area with a bandage with appropriate force to prevent swelling.

5. While slowly relaxing the muscles of the injured area and raising the injured limb, you can take some analgesic and hemostatic drugs.

6. Remove the bandage after one day and, depending on the severity of the injury, apply blood circulation and swelling-reducing plasters, apply appropriate hot compresses or massage the injured area with lighter techniques.

If the muscle strain is serious, such as the muscle belly or tendon is broken, you should go to the hospital for surgery as soon as possible and never try to handle it yourself.
