When there is a problem with our intestines, the secretion of the intestinal mucosa becomes abnormal, which will lead to the appearance of intestinal polyps in the long run. When intestinal polyps appear, they will be accompanied by certain body symptoms. In order to ensure the health of the body and reduce the harmfulness of intestinal polyps, it is necessary to understand the symptoms of intestinal polyps and their harm so as to detect them early and seek medical treatment early. 1. What are the symptoms of intestinal polyps? 1. Abdominal pain is the most common symptom. About 50% of patients with small intestinal adenoma may have abdominal pain to varying degrees. The pain is mostly located in the mid-abdomen or around the navel. Most patients often have intermittent pain, which worsens in paroxysmal patterns. There are dull pain, bloating, and even colic. The pain mostly occurs after eating and can often be relieved or alleviated on its own. The symptoms are not severe at first, but worsen as the disease progresses, often accompanied by bowel sounds. 2. Gastrointestinal bleeding is also quite common. About 1/4 of patients with small intestinal adenoma may have gastrointestinal bleeding. When the tumor expands to a certain size, the tumor erodes and the blood vessels on the tumor surface rupture, causing bleeding. Most patients have minor bleeding, which manifests as intermittent black stools or only positive fecal occult blood. Severe bleeding is rare. 3. Other symptoms include abdominal discomfort, belching, nausea and vomiting, weight loss, abdominal distension and even diarrhea. Adenoma in the duodenal papilla may cause obstructive jaundice by compressing or blocking the lower end of the common bile duct. 4. There are generally no obvious positive signs. Long-term occult bleeding may cause anemia. Patients with intestinal polyps may have black plaques on the lip mucosa, buccal mucosa, gums, and palms of fingers and toes. 2. Three major hazards of intestinal polyps 1. Intussusception: Sometimes larger rectal polyps can also cause intussusception, resulting in intestinal obstruction and abdominal pain. 2. Rectal prolapse: When rectal polyps are large or numerous, gravity pulls on the intestinal mucosa, causing it to gradually separate from the muscle layer and prolapse downward. The traction caused by the patient's defecation movement and the stimulation of intestinal peristalsis can relax the mucosal layer around the base of the rectum, which may lead to rectal prolapse. 3. Canceration: Many patients with single polyps do not pay attention to the early stage, and it is very likely to develop multiple polyps, and the chance of multiple polyps becoming cancerous is extremely high. 3. Methods for checking intestinal polyps In order to effectively improve the clinical diagnosis level of gastrointestinal diseases, intestinal polyps are generally monitored by colonoscopy. |
