Can visual fatigue lead to myopia? What factors influence it?

If you experience visual fatigue in your life, you need to relieve and treat it in time, otherwise it will have a certain impact on your vision. Long-term visual fatigue will affect the eye environment and in severe cases will cause a rapid decline in vision.

1. Eye factors:

(1) Abnormal accommodation: Hyperopia, astigmatism, pseudomyopia, anisometropia, etc., are prone to visual fatigue due to excessive use of accommodation. In the early stages of presbyopia, early glaucoma, blunt eye trauma, etc., visual fatigue is caused by insufficient accommodation.

(2) Abnormal convergence: The excessive use of accommodation mentioned above is bound to be accompanied by excessive convergence due to various reasons. Myopia also requires more convergence when looking at close objects, which increases the burden on the medial rectus muscle and causes visual fatigue. In addition, incomplete development of convergence function, large pupil distance, and long-term uncorrected true myopia can all cause visual fatigue due to insufficient convergence function.

(3) Eye muscle balance disorder: When patients with latent strabismus look at objects, they need to use the "corrective fusion reflex" to keep the eyeball in the right position, which can cause visual fatigue.

(4) Abnormal pupil size: Pupils that are too large or too small or pupils of different sizes can cause visual fatigue.

2. Systemic factors: When the body is weak or tired; certain systemic diseases (such as infection of lesions - sinusitis, tonsillitis, etc.; endocrine disorders - hyperthyroidism, ovarian insufficiency; physical weakness - women after illness or childbirth, breastfeeding period, smoking and drinking habits and mental factors), etc., can reduce the tolerance of the eyes. Coupled with the influence of certain factors on the eyes, visual fatigue is more likely to occur.

3. Environmental factors: products or tools produced are too small; work that requires the eyes is too precise and delicate; unreasonable lighting; unclear contrast between the object being stared at and the background; unsteady movement of the work object; staring for a long time without moving, etc. Both can cause symptoms of visual fatigue. The main manifestations of visual fatigue are: inability to work or read at close range for a long time; easy fatigue, blurred vision, reading the wrong line of a book; heavy and swollen eyes; headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, irritability and other symptoms of neurosis.
