Toxic acute renal failure, is it serious?

Toxic acute renal failure is a very common disease in our lives, especially for some low-level personnel, such as those working in chemical plants. Once they work for a long time, their kidneys may be damaged. So is toxic acute renal failure serious?

1. Toxic nephropathy is kidney damage caused by nephrotoxic substances. Often named after nephrotoxic substances. With the development of industry, the increase in metal and smelting industries, the emergence of chemical raw materials, medicines and various pesticides have increased environmental pollution, increased the chances of people being exposed to nephrotoxins, and the incidence of toxic nephropathy has also increased accordingly. Kidney damage caused by nephrotoxic substances often manifests as acute renal failure. Acute renal failure caused by toxic nephropathy accounts for 5% to 25%.

2. If treated appropriately and promptly, kidney function can return to normal. Delayed diagnosis and treatment can lead to death. For example, we still take a wait-and-see attitude and fail to seriously practice new treatment methods that have been confirmed by a large number of studies and widely used in other clinical disciplines, such as high-dose glucocorticoids, free radical scavengers, calcium channel blockers and other cellular intervention measures for the prevention and treatment of acute kidney injury. We also have been unable to put these new treatment methods into clinical practice, such as metallothionein monoclonal antibodies with a sensitivity of 1 ng/ml and dithiocarbamate drugs for excreting renal cadmium [42,43], which have been successfully developed for many years and are at the international advanced level. These methods have been difficult to use in clinical practice and require us to seriously review them in order to make improvements.

3. The so-called toxic nephropathy is a general term for kidney diseases caused by drugs, chemicals and physical poisons. This type of disease has various manifestations, and patients may experience fatigue, low back pain, edema, proteinuria, hematuria, decreased or increased urine volume, decreased urine specific gravity, increased urine sodium, increased blood urea nitrogen and creatinine, etc. In mild cases, mild renal insufficiency may occur; in severe cases, it may develop into severe renal failure and uremia, and even be life-threatening.
