What to do with allergic keratitis

Allergic keratitis is also a type of keratitis. This type of keratitis affects both adults and children. Allergic keratitis is more likely to occur in some children with allergic constitutions. Treatment for allergic keratitis can be relieved through medication.

1. Disease treatment

For allergic diseases, avoiding contact with allergens is the key to treatment. However, it is difficult to identify allergens in most patients, so the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis is completely symptomatic, with the aim of alleviating the child's pain and relieving symptoms.

2. Physical therapy

Cold compress on the eyes can reduce local temperature, constrict blood vessels, and relieve symptoms such as itching and burning. For patients with mild symptoms, cold compress is a convenient, quick and effective relief measure.

3. Medication

(1) Topical eye drops: Topical eye drops are characterized by rapid onset of action and few adverse effects. They are the most common clinical drugs for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Based on their mechanism of action, they are mainly divided into the following categories: antihistamines, mast cell stabilizers, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and hormone drugs. Immunosuppressants can be used for patients with more severe conditions. The above drugs should be used under the guidance of an ophthalmologist and should not be used on your own.

(2) Systemic medication: Oral medications generally improve compliance and are effective in most cases. They are mainly oral antihistamines, which have a long-lasting effect.

4. Surgery

Generally speaking, allergic conjunctivitis in children can be well relieved by drug treatment. For severe complications such as corneal leucoma, surgical treatment can be used to scrape off the leucoma, cover the amniotic membrane, etc., to promote corneal repair.
