This is what stomach stones are like

Kidney stones are a common disease in daily life. Many people are told that they have kidney stones during physical examinations in the hospital, but the sizes vary. So what exactly is kidney stones? Most people don’t know much about this, but in fact, kidney stones are stony lumps formed in the stomach after eating certain substances.

Gastric stones are stone-like lumps that form in the stomach after eating certain substances. The shapes are mostly round or oval, and the sizes vary, ranging from small ones like ping-pong balls to large ones like baby heads. According to their different components, they can be divided into three types: plant, hair and mixed. The most common type in clinical practice is plant-based gastric persimmon stone.

Persimmons or black dates contain a substance called tannin, and the content of unripe persimmons can be as high as 20%. When people eat raw persimmons, their tongue feels astringent, which is caused by the tannins. In addition, persimmons also contain gum and pectin. After people eat unripe persimmons, the tannins can combine with proteins under the action of gastric acid to form tannic acid protein which is not easily soluble in water and precipitates in the stomach. The tannic acid protein, gum and pectin can stick the persimmon kernels and vegetable plant fibers together to form gastric persimmon stones in the stomach. People with excessive stomach acid are prone to developing stomach stones if they eat persimmons. Some people can develop gastric stones after eating raw persimmons once.

After the formation of gastric stones, most patients have upper abdominal discomfort, fullness, nausea or pain; some patients have symptoms similar to chronic gastritis, such as loss of appetite, indigestion, upper abdominal distension, dull pain, acid reflux, and heartburn; some patients may have combined gastric ulcers; 1/3 of patients with gastric persimmon stones can feel a movable hard mass in the upper abdomen. If the patient has the above symptoms and signs, lives in a persimmon-producing area, and has a history of eating large amounts of persimmons, especially astringent persimmons, on an empty stomach, the diagnosis can generally be made. If there is doubt about the diagnosis, gastroscopy or X-ray gastroscopy may be performed.

harm

Today, with the rapid economic development, people's pace of life is accelerating, their dietary structure is changing, and the incidence of stone disease is on the rise. The phenomenon of younger patients is becoming more and more obvious. People aged 25 to 40 are the high-risk group, and women are particularly prone to the disease.

It is reported that kidney stones have now targeted white-collar workers. Nowadays, many white-collar workers sit in offices for long hours and lack exercise. Some people, due to the stressful work, often drink only a few times of water a day, and some simply don't drink water at all. These two bad habits are the main reasons why white-collar workers are prone to kidney stones, especially in hot summer. The water in the human body evaporates very quickly. If water is not replenished, the amount of urine will be greatly reduced, causing some small urine crystals to deposit in the body and cause kidney stones.
