Is the mortality rate of malignant melanoma high?

It is generally believed that melanocytoma is closely related to nevus cells. Many people believe that this disease may be caused by the deterioration of nevus cells. However, it is now believed that not all melanocytoma is caused by the deterioration of nevus cells. This melanocytoma may originate from human intradermal cells. Generally speaking, most melanocytoma occurring on the palm and sole has nothing to do with nevus cells. This disease can be caused by damage to pigment cells. It can also be caused by ultraviolet radiation.

The incidence of melanocytoma is not as high as that of basal cell carcinoma, but the latter is very serious. The disease may metastasize quickly in the early stage of onset, which can easily lead to death. Therefore, melanocytoma is a disease with a high mortality rate. Even so, it is possible to be cured if it is discovered early and treated actively.

Melanocytoma in children is mostly caused by the continued malignant transformation of giant congenital nevus, while melanocytoma in adults is mostly primary pigmented tumor. After the disease occurs, pigment spots will form in the affected area. The color of these pigment spots is very uneven and sometimes protrudes from the skin surface.

There are many types of melanocytoma. The most common type in our country is the nodular type. This type of melanocytoma can present symptoms of polyps or cauliflower shape. This type of melanocytoma is very easy to rupture and metastasize, and it is difficult to treat in the middle and late stages.

Note:

If melanocytoma has not metastasized to the lymph nodes or spread to the blood, it is relatively easy to treat. It can be cured by surgical removal and then assisted by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. However, if it has metastasized or spread, the five-year survival rate of patients after early treatment is only about 25%.
