What are the diagnostic criteria for conjunctivitis

The onset of conjunctivitis can be confusing for patients, as the disease requires isolation during treatment to prevent infection of others. Red eye can be diagnosed through some of its symptoms, such as eye discomfort, redness of the eyeball, etc.

Pink eye, also known as "epidemic hemorrhagic conjunctivitis", is caused by a picornavirus and is an acute infectious eye inflammation. It is divided into two categories: bacterial conjunctivitis and viral conjunctivitis. Their clinical symptoms are similar, but the viral type is more prevalent and more harmful. Conjunctivitis develops suddenly, is highly contagious, and is generally transmitted through contact. If one person gets conjunctivitis, the whole family may become ill within 12 days, and then the disease may spread to the society. The incubation period of conjunctivitis is very short. The disease can occur 23 hours after contact and reaches its peak after 12 days.

Diagnosis of pink eye

1. Outbreak and high infectiousness;

2. Severe irritation symptoms such as severe pain, photophobia, tearing, and watery secretions;

3. Conjunctival hyperemia, edema, and subconjunctival hemorrhage;

4. Diffuse punctate epithelial detachment of the cornea;

5. Swollen lymph nodes before the ear or under the mandible;

6. In some cases, lower limb paralysis occurs after conjunctivitis subsides.
