How to treat the symptoms of blood deficiency headache in traditional Chinese medicine

Blood deficiency headache is one of the many diseases that can cause headaches in the human body. It mostly occurs from blood vessels, so it is also collectively called vascular headache. Its onset is often accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, and heart palpitations, which seriously endanger human health. Therefore, it is important to understand the symptoms of blood deficiency headache and ensure early detection and treatment.

Symptoms of blood deficiency headache

1. The symptoms of blood deficiency headache are headache and dizziness, palpitations, restlessness, fatigue, yellow-pale complexion, pale tongue with white coating, and weak pulse.

2. Twitching pain from the tip of the eyebrow to the corner of the head, prone to panic, wiry pulse, or dull headache, dizziness, pale face, palpitations, thin pulse, etc. It can also cause hair loss.

3 All the organs, meridians and other tissues and organs in the body rely on blood for nourishment. Therefore, when blood is deficient, symptoms of systemic or local weakness will appear.

4 If the complexion is dull, the lips, tongue, nails are pale and lifeless, there is dizziness, palpitations, fatigue, thin body, or numbness of hands and feet, difficulty in flexing and extending joints, or dry eyes, blurred vision, etc., these are all clinical signs of blood deficiency.

5. Dull headache, intermittent pain, dizziness, palpitations, fatigue, pale face and lips.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

(1) Danshen Xitong Fang [Function and indication] Function: Promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, nourish blood and soothe the liver. Mainly used to treat vascular headaches in high altitude areas. [Prescription and usage] 15g of Salvia miltiorrhiza, 10g of Angelica sinensis, 10g of White Peony Root, 12g of Chuanxiong, 10g of Rehmannia glutinosa, 15g of Millettia reticulata, 9g of Prunella Vulgaris, 20g of Mother of Pearl (pre-boiled), 2g of Asarum (added later), 10g of Tribulus terrestris, 6g of Chrysanthemum, and 10g of Gentiana macrophylla. Add 1000ml of water, boil, add sugar to melt, and concentrate to 100ml. Take 1 dose per day, 12 to 15 days as a course of treatment.

(2) Tianma Headache Powder [Function and indication] Function: Promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, dispel wind and relieve pain. Mainly used to treat migraine. [Prescription and usage] 12 grams of Gastrodia elata, 12 grams of Angelica sinensis root, 12 grams of white chrysanthemum, 12 grams of Angelica dahurica, 12 grams of Ligusticum chuanxiong, 12 grams of Salvia miltiorrhiza, 10 grams of Safflower, 6 grams of Peach Kernel, 10 grams of Rehmannia glutinosa, 12 grams of Poria cocos, 12 grams of White Peony Root, and 12 grams of Vitex rotundifolia. Decoction in water.

(3) Soothing the Liver and Relieving Pain [Function and Indication] Soothes the Liver and relieves depression; Indicates vascular neurotic headaches of the liver qi stagnation type. [Prescription and usage] 9 grams of bupleurum, 10 grams of red and white peony roots, 10 grams of cyperus rotundus, 10 grams of orange leaves, 9 grams of stir-fried aurantium and 6 grams of liquorice, decocted in water and taken orally.

(4) Heat-clearing and analgesic prescription [Function and indication] It can clear away phlegm and heat; it is mainly used to treat vascular neurosis headache of the phlegm-dampness-heat type. [Prescription and usage] 10 grams of Pinellia, 9 grams of dried tangerine peel, 6 grams of Citrus aurantium, 2 grams of Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, 9 grams of Platycodon, and 15 grams of Poria, decocted in water and taken orally.

(5) Danggui Huayu Prescription [Function and indication] Function: Promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis; Indications: Vascular neurotic headache caused by blood stasis and obstruction of collaterals. [Prescription and usage] 10 grams of Angelica sinensis, 10 grams of Moutan bark, 6 grams of Safflower, 15 grams of Rehmannia glutinosa, 9 grams of Platycodon grandiflorum, and 6 grams of Chuanxiong, decocted in water and taken orally.

(6) Qinggantongting Fang [Function and indication] Function: Clears the liver and cools the blood; mainly treats vascular neurosis headache of liver meridian blood heat type. [Prescription and usage] 9 grams of gentian, 9 grams of bupleurum, 15 grams of raw rehmannia, 12 grams of moutan bark, 10 grams each of red and white peony roots, and 9 grams of aurantium. Decoction in water.

(7) Lotus Herb and Poria Cocos Recipe [Function and Indications] It nourishes the liver and kidneys; it is mainly used to treat vascular neurotic headaches of liver and kidney yin deficiency type. [Prescription and usage] 15 grams of Ligustrum lucidum, 15 grams of Eclipta prostrata, 12 grams of Cornus officinalis, 15 grams of Poria cocos, and 9 grams of Chrysanthemum, decocted in water and taken orally.

(8) Prescription for Dispelling Cold and Relieving Pain [Function and Indication] It warms the liver and dispels cold; it is mainly used to treat vascular neurosis headache caused by cold stagnation in the Jueyin meridian. [Prescription and usage] 6 grams of Evodia rutaecarpa, 10 grams of Codonopsis pilosula, 10 grams of Pinellia ternata, 15 grams of Poria cocos, 3 grams of cinnamon bark, and 10 grams of Inula japonica. Decoction in water.

(9) Qufeng Zhitong Prescription [Function and indication] Function: dispel wind and resolve phlegm; mainly used to treat vascular neurosis headache caused by wind-phlegm blocking the meridians. [Prescription and usage] 12 grams of Pinellia, 15 grams of Poria, 12 grams of Uncaria, 12 grams of White Peony, 10 grams of Cistanche, and 9 grams of Tangerine Peel, decocted in water and taken orally.

(10) Guizhi Tiaohe Fang [Function and indication] It can harmonize the Ying and Wei systems; it is mainly used to treat vascular neurosis headache caused by the imbalance of Ying and Wei systems. [Prescription and usage] 10 grams of cinnamon twig, 12 grams of white chuanxiong, 6 grams of licorice, 5 slices of ginger, 5 dates, and 15 grams of kudzu root, decocted in water and taken orally.
