6 ways to add 20 years to your life in just 1 minute

6 ways to add 20 years to your life in just 1 minute

If you've been using not having enough time as an excuse for not adopting healthier habits, now's the time to think again: Here's a list of good habits that can help you increase your lifespan and health, and each one only takes 60 seconds or less to do.

Get up every hour

A recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that people who sat for more than four hours a day outside of work had a 50% increased risk of death from all causes, compared with those who sat for no more than two hours a day outside of work. It is recommended that you stand up and walk around for one minute for every hour you sit. This means you need to walk about 10,000 steps a day.

Eat an egg

Eggs are a nutritional powerhouse that really are good for you: One egg provides 13 percent of your daily protein needs and only 4 percent of your recommended daily calories. In addition, it contains a lot of lutein, an antioxidant that can protect the eyes from macular degeneration and UV damage. An egg a day may also help prevent Alzheimer's disease because the yolk is a great source of B vitamins, which can reduce inflammation in the brain.

Chromium intake

Studies show that this trace mineral helps maintain normal blood sugar levels by increasing cells' sensitivity to insulin, helping the body fight type 2 diabetes. Taking 200 micrograms of chromium nicotinate every day can achieve the above effects.

Don't forget to floss

Without thorough flossing, bacteria hiding between teeth can cause gum infections and enter the bloodstream, where they can inflame arteries and lead to plaque deposits on blood vessel walls. New research has linked gum disease to other problems, such as respiratory infections and neurodegeneration.

Checking the pulse

Before getting up in the morning, place your index and middle fingers on your wrist just below your thumb and count your pulse for 30 seconds. Then multiply this number by two, and that's your pulse rate in 1 minute. One study found that women whose pulse was 90 beats per minute or higher had a threefold increased risk of dying from heart disease, compared with a normal pulse of 60 beats per minute. If your heart rate is high, you may want to consider adding more omega-3 fatty acids to your diet.

Perform a self-massage

Stress can cause damage to various organs in the human body. As a quick relief, you can place your thumbs on either side of your nose just below your eyebrows, then use your index and middle fingers to massage back and forth over your eyebrows, finishing with your temples. Massage can reduce cortisol and adrenaline, while increasing the secretion of feel-good endorphins.

Longevity is not a dream. If you pay attention to these simple and useful health care in your daily life, you can actually live a few more years!
