What are the symptoms of late stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma

The incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma remains high in life, which is mainly related to people's living habits. Friends who have the habit of smoking will increase the incidence of nasopharyngeal cancer. The symptoms of late-stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma are relatively obvious.

Advanced symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma

1. Deafness and tinnitus: often unilateral, or develop from one side to both sides. Tinnitus and deafness often occur together, but sometimes they can occur alone. It is often diagnosed as conductive hearing loss, otitis media, and middle ear effusion and treated, which can provide temporary relief, but will worsen again later, and this repeated occurrence will eventually lead to severe hearing loss.

2. Difficulty in swallowing, choking and coughing when swallowing, tongue dysfunction and hoarseness: These symptoms are the result of the nasopharyngeal cancer lesions invading outward and causing cranial nerve paralysis, indicating that the local lesions have reached the late stage.

3. Swollen cervical lymph nodes: About 80% of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients have swollen cervical lymph nodes when they seek medical treatment, and 40% of them have swollen cervical lymph nodes as the first symptom.

4. Headache, facial numbness, difficulty opening the mouth, double vision: One, two, or all of these symptoms may occur, or appear one after another, from mild to severe, and continue to develop. Headaches are mostly migraines, which progressively worsen. Facial numbness often occurs on the same side as the headache, and the skin feels numb, tingling, or like insects crawling on the side. The area of numbness may gradually expand or worsen, causing difficulty opening the mouth, deviation, and weakness in chewing.

5. Bloody mucus: Bloody mucus may appear as long as there is erosion and ulceration on the surface of the cancer. Bloody mucus is often unilateral and often occurs after getting up in the morning. It may be wiped out through the nose or discharged through the mouth when the nasal mucus is sucked back. Most cases have blood in the nasal discharge, and a few may develop into dripping blood or bleeding from both the mouth and nose. This type of bleeding cannot be stopped by simply pressing or blocking the anterior nasal cavity.
