What is chondroma, a common benign tumor

The onset of enchondroma is very slow, so the symptoms are not particularly obvious. It is especially prone to young and middle-aged people. Enchondroma is related to bone damage, viral infection, and genetics. It requires timely diagnosis and treatment, and attention to daily care.

1. Symptoms and Signs

Most patients are between 10 and 50 years old. The disease progresses slowly and generally has no obvious symptoms. It is often only after several years when the tumor grows and causes deformity or intermittent dull pain that the patient's attention is drawn. Multiple enchondromas can be seen in the upper limbs, with the fingers gradually becoming thicker, the ulna often shorter than the radius, and the forearm bending toward the ulnar side. In the lower limbs, enlarged toes, genu valgum, and unequal lengths of the two lower limbs can be seen.

2. Pathological causes

The cause of the tumor is still unclear. Some scholars believe that it may be related to factors such as bone damage, chronic infection, radiation stimulation, genetics and the direction of bone development.

3. Diagnosis and Differentiation of Chondroma

Diagnosis of enchondroma:

1. It is more common in young and middle-aged people, and is more common in the central part of the short tubular bones of the hands and feet, mostly in the phalanges and metacarpals, and is often multiple. Pelvis, ribs and long tubular bones are often single.

2. The lesion is locally fusiformly swollen, with mild pain and tenderness, and pathological fractures may occur. Malignant transformation is rare, but when it occurs, the tumor may suddenly increase in size and the pain may intensify.

3. The diagnosis can be confirmed by X-ray and pathological examination.
