Lemon is a very familiar fruit to people. This fruit is mainly used to make juice or desserts. Few people eat lemons raw because the taste is not that good if eaten raw. Instead, it feels very sour. This leads many people to think that lemons do not contain sugar. In fact, this fruit does contain sugar.

Lemon (scientific name: Citrus limon (L.) Burm. f.), a plant of the genus Citrus in the Rutaceae family, is also known as lemon fruit, citron, and motherwort fruit. A small tree with few or almost thornless branches, young leaves and flower buds dark purple-red, thick papery leaves, ovate or elliptical. Flowers are solitary or in axillary clusters of a few. The fruit is oval or ovate, with a thick, usually rough, lemon yellow peel, acidic to very acidic juice, small seeds, ovate, pointed at the end; the seed coat is smooth, the cotyledons are milky white, usually simple or polyembryonic. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is September-November.

Lemons are produced south of the Yangtze River in China and are native to Southeast Asia. The main producing areas are the United States, Italy, Spain and Greece.

Lemon is very sour and is the favorite food for pregnant women with liver deficiency, so it is called Yi Mu fruit or Yi Mu child. Lemons are rich in citric acid, so they are known as "citric acid warehouses". Its fruit is juicy, crispy and has a strong aroma. Because of its extremely sour taste, it can only be used as a high-quality seasoning to make drinks, dishes, cosmetics and medicines. In addition, lemon is rich in vitamin C, which can reduce phlegm and relieve cough, promote salivation and strengthen the stomach. It is used for symptoms such as bronchitis, whooping cough, loss of appetite, vitamin deficiency, heatstroke and thirst. It is the nemesis of "scurvy".

Lemon is one of the most medicinal fruits in the world. It is rich in vitamin C, sugars, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin quinic acid, citric acid, malic acid, hesperidin, naringin, coumarin, high potassium and low sodium.

Citric acid has the effect of preventing and eliminating skin pigmentation. It can also prevent colds, stimulate hematopoiesis and help reduce the risk of various cancers.

Note: Lemons are generally not eaten raw, but processed into beverages or foods. Such as lemon juice, lemon jam, lemon slices, lemon cakes, etc., can play the same medicinal effects, such as improving vision and dark adaptation, reducing fatigue, etc.
