What are the dangers of taking antibiotics for a long time

Long-term use of antibiotics is very harmful to people. It will cause rashes, spots on the skin, and complications of neurogenic edema. Therefore, you must pay attention to the time and dosage of taking the medicine. This medicine cannot be taken for a long time. Severe patients may directly suffer from renal failure or liver disease.

What are the dangers of using antibiotics

People have been working hard to find a new drug to defeat superbugs, but to no avail. Not only that, as the world gradually reaches a consensus on the abuse of antibiotics, the status and role of antibiotics have been questioned and are also subject to strict management. As the bacteria spread, the research and development of antibiotics gradually stagnated. Having lost antibiotics, a once powerful weapon, people have begun to look for inspiration in fighting diseases from the crude treatments of the past. Finding a healthy and natural treatment that uses human immunity to resist the attack of superbugs has become a new consensus among many people about diseases.

Human body harm

The main adverse reaction is the inhibition of bone marrow hematopoietic function. There are two symptoms: one is a reversible decrease in various blood cells, among which granulocytes decrease first. This reaction is related to the dose and course of treatment. Once discovered, the medication should be stopped in time and the disease can be recovered; the second is irreversible aplastic anemia, which, although rare, has a high mortality rate. This reaction is an allergic reaction and has no direct relationship with the dosage or course of treatment.

This may be related to the fact that chloramphenicol inhibits the 70S ribosomes in the mitochondria of bone marrow hematopoietic cells, which are the same as those of bacteria. In order to prevent toxic reactions in the hematopoietic system, abuse should be avoided and blood counts should be checked frequently during use. Chloramphenicol can also cause gastrointestinal reactions and superinfection. In addition, a small number of patients may experience allergic reactions such as rash and angioedema, but they are relatively mild. Excessive doses in newborns and premature infants may cause circulatory failure (gray baby syndrome) because their livers are underdeveloped and their excretion capacity is poor, which limits the metabolism and detoxification of chloramphenicol.

When we use antibiotics, we must understand the corresponding antibacterial spectra and pharmaceutical characteristics of various antibiotics. Doctors should select antibiotics correctly according to their clinical indications. When using broad-spectrum antibiotics or multiple antibiotics in combination, attention should be paid to antibiotic-associated diarrhea and fungal infections, and the presence of hyphae in sputum, urine, and stool should be closely monitored. Oral antifungal drugs should be added if necessary. Strictly control the dosage and time of using broad-spectrum antibiotics. The dosage should not be too large. Except for sepsis and intracranial infection, the medication is generally used for 7 to 10 days. Switch to narrow-spectrum antibiotics as soon as possible to avoid secondary fungal infection.
