What to do if potato poisoning occurs

The problem of potato poisoning must not be ignored, especially when eating sprouted potatoes, these phenomena can easily occur, so you must pay attention to scientific diet, sprouted potatoes can no longer be eaten, and potatoes must be cooked before eating.

1. Eating sprouted potatoes will cause some symptoms to appear within 10 minutes to several hours after eating. First, the poisoned person will feel itchy and burning throat, and burning pain in the upper abdomen. Then there will be symptoms of gastroenteritis, severe vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, low blood pressure, electrolyte imbalance, dizziness, headache, difficulty breathing, mild impaired consciousness, and severe symptoms may also cause heart failure, paralysis of the respiratory center, and death.

2. If symptoms of poisoning occur after eating potatoes, emergency measures should be taken in time. You can induce vomiting, perform gastric lavage or induce laxatives immediately after eating. To induce vomiting, you can use chopsticks to stimulate the throat. After poisoning, you should drink more boiled water or sugar water. You can also take 1% tannic acid solution, strong tea or vinegar to break down the toxin solanine contained in potatoes and play a detoxifying role.

3. In addition to taking the above things, you can also take sodium sulfate and magnesium sulfate, about 15 to 20 grams, to induce laxative. If conditions permit, 5% glucose solution can be injected intravenously. If there are symptoms of abdominal pain, atropine can be injected intramuscularly.

4. In addition to learning the first aid measures for potato poisoning, you should also pay attention to prevention in your daily diet. Do not eat sprouted potatoes. If you want to eat them, you should dig out the sprouted part and the surrounding area, and soak the remaining part in clean water for 30 to 40 minutes, then cook it before eating. You can add some vinegar when cooking, which can destroy solanine.
