Symptoms of urethral stricture, hazards and treatment of urethral stricture

Symptoms of urethral stricture, hazards and treatment of urethral stricture

Urethral stenosis is a common urinary system disease with a high incidence rate in men. Urethral stenosis can cause certain harm to the body. Once you experience symptoms such as difficulty urinating, bifurcated urine, etc., you should consult a doctor in time, determine the condition and actively cooperate with treatment. Urethral stenosis is not a difficult disease, but if the disease is delayed due to lack of ability to recognize symptoms, it will invisibly aggravate the harm.

1. What are the symptoms of urethral stricture?

1. Difficulty urinating

Dysuria is the main symptom of urethral stenosis, which can be mild or severe and is related to the degree of urethral stenosis.

2. Bladder irritation symptoms and bladder decompensation

It manifests as frequent urination, urgency, incomplete urination, and gradually there is residual urine, and eventually urinary retention or overflow incontinence.

2. The harm of urethral stricture

1. Affecting genital function

Due to the disease, various symptoms and discomforts worsen after sex, or directly affect the feelings and quality of the couple's life, causing the patient to gradually develop a sense of disgust, leading to a decline in genital function and other phenomena.

2. Lead to chronic renal failure

The biggest feature of urethritis is that it can easily become chronic, and in severe cases it can cause chronic renal failure. According to the latest statistics, 25% of chronic renal failure patients are caused by urethritis.

3. Cause urethral stenosis and dysuria

Because urethritis can directly affect the epithelium of the urethra, scars are formed at the infected site, and in severe cases, urethral stenosis can be caused, making it difficult for the patient to urinate.

4. Cause cystitis and prostatitis

Because bacteria lurking in the urethra invade the prostate, vas deferens, epididymis and testicles, it is easy to cause complications such as cystitis, prostatitis, paraurethral abscess, and urethral fistula.

3. How to treat urethral stricture

How should you treat urethral stenosis? I believe this is a question that many people are concerned about. Then let’s take a look at it together.

1. Urethral dilation

Urethral dilation has a role in the treatment of strictures and has a therapeutic effect on fibrosis that only invades the epithelium or superficial corpus cavernosum. After expansion, the stenotic area is stretched and massaged, which improves local blood circulation, promotes the softening of scar tissue, and helps relieve stenosis.

For those who are more sensitive or who are undergoing urethral dilation for the first time, surface anesthesia can be applied. The thinner the probe is and the sharper its head is, the easier it is to penetrate the urethral wall and form a false passage. If a 16F, 14F or 12F probe cannot be expanded, avoid repeated expansion to avoid artificial urethral damage.

2. Endovascular surgery

Through continuous improvements by scholars at home and abroad, the therapeutic effect of urethral stenosis and atresia has been significantly improved, and it is the first choice treatment for urethral stenosis.

Its main advantages are safety, convenience, repeatability, few complications, short hospitalization time and wide indications. It is suitable for all types of urethral strictures, especially for those with posterior urethral strictures or those who have had open surgery but have difficulty in undergoing another open surgery.

Currently, a guide wire is often used under peephole guidance to display and determine the location and direction of the narrow urethral cavity, so as to facilitate targeted cutting surgery. The incision is usually made at 12, 5, and 7 o'clock in the lithotomy position. During cutting, water should be flushed appropriately to maintain a clear field of vision.

After the operation, an 18F or 20F silicone urinary catheter is placed and the urethral epithelium covers the incision, indicating that the incision has healed. The length of time the catheter is placed depends on the condition of the stricture segment.
