How is gastric cancer staged? It is divided into these five stages

Gastric cancer is divided into five stages: T0, T1, T2, T3, and T4 according to the depth of infiltration of the primary tumor into the gastric wall; it is divided into four stages: N0, N1, N2, and N3 according to regional lymph node metastasis; and it is divided into two stages: M0 and M1 according to distant metastasis.

1. Staging based on the depth of primary tumor invasion into the gastric wall
T0 indicates carcinoma in situ, in which the tumor appears in the epithelium without invading the lamina propria; T1 indicates that the tumor has invaded the lamina propria or reached the muscularis mucosa and submucosa; T2 indicates that the tumor has invaded the muscularis propria; T3 indicates that the tumor has penetrated the connective tissue under the serosa; and T4 indicates that the tumor has invaded the serosa and adjacent structures.
2. Staging based on regional lymph node metastasis
N0 indicates no lymph node metastasis; N1 indicates one to two regional lymph node metastasis; N2 indicates three to six regional lymph node metastasis; N3 indicates seven or more regional lymph node metastasis. The larger the number, the later the stage and the more serious the disease.
3. Staging based on distant metastasis
M0 indicates no distant metastasis, and M1 indicates distant metastasis. At this time, the condition is very serious.
