Will orthodontic correction make teeth loose?

Although teeth grow inside our mouths, once they are deformed or yellow in color, it will seriously affect our image. Many people often lack confidence and don't like to smile due to their crooked teeth, which gives people the impression that they are difficult to approach. Therefore, many people in life will correct their teeth through orthodontic methods. However, some problems will be encountered during the orthodontic process. Let's take a look at whether orthodontic correction will make the teeth loose.

Will orthodontic correction make teeth loose?

Orthodontic treatment is designed to improve previously unsightly teeth, so it is loved by friends of all ages. However, many friends worry that their teeth will become loose after orthodontic treatment. This not only fails to repair the teeth, but makes our teeth even uglier. So will orthodontics make teeth loose?

Teeth are not immovable like nails, but are "embedded" in the alveolar bone, relying on the periodontal membrane to maintain their stability. The elasticity and toughness of the periodontal membrane allow the teeth to be somewhat loose when performing their functions to avoid damage. This phenomenon is called physiological mobility of teeth.

When the alveolar bone around the tooth roots is gradually absorbed due to long-term periodontal disease, the teeth will begin to loosen, and this loosening is pathological. The more the alveolar bone is absorbed, the looser the teeth become; when the alveolar bone is completely absorbed, the teeth will fall out. In addition, the main reason for the gradual loosening and loss of teeth in the elderly is periodontal disease. It can be seen from this that there is no necessary relationship between loose teeth and dental correction. In fact, the neat alignment of teeth after orthodontic treatment is beneficial to oral hygiene and can assist in the treatment of periodontal disease. In this sense, orthodontics helps our dental health and can also prevent loose teeth in the elderly.

So why do some people's teeth become loose after orthodontic treatment? The reason may be that the patient suffered from periodontal disease before orthodontic treatment. Some informal hospitals, due to improper operation during orthodontic treatment, lead to the aggravation of periodontal disease, thus causing loose teeth. But this loose tooth has no direct relationship with orthodontics.

Therefore, loose teeth generally do not occur after orthodontic treatment. However, it is worth noting that during the process of orthodontic treatment, structures such as the periodontal membrane and alveolar bone will also undergo corresponding reconstruction. Therefore, some patients will experience mild loose teeth, soreness and discomfort, and chewing weakness. These are all normal reactions during the treatment process. After the correction is completed, these phenomena will disappear, the teeth will return to normal, and the teeth will not become loose.

The above is an introduction to whether orthodontic correction will make teeth loose. After understanding it, we know that we must pay special attention to the maintenance of teeth during the orthodontic process and ensure good oral hygiene. If there is any discomfort during the orthodontic process, we must go to the hospital for treatment in time. In addition, we should not eat too sweet foods in daily life.
