How to prevent centipedes from appearing at home

I believe no one likes centipedes, and they are poisonous. Once bitten, it will cause considerable damage to the body. Therefore, people are generally afraid of centipedes. However, centipedes are commonly present in our lives. Taking good preventive measures can avoid centipedes appearing in the home and causing biting incidents. So, how to prevent centipedes from appearing at home? Let’s take a closer look below.

Centipedes like a humid living environment. Therefore, in order to reduce the chance of centipedes staying and living indoors, the room should be kept dry and windows should be opened more often for ventilation. If it is not possible to remove moisture through windows and doors, use a desiccant such as quicklime or an air dryer for dehumidification.

Centipedes like to live close to the ground, often hiding in caves or crevices. Therefore, once you find a centipede in your home, you should clean up the indoor debris. There should not be objects all over the floor. Try not to allow small gaps to form between the debris and the ground. Do not give the centipede a place to hide. It will naturally leave and find another place to hide.

Centipedes enter the house often because the environment around the house is humid, which is suitable for centipedes to live. In some cases, centipedes enter human dwellings intentionally or accidentally. Therefore, it is best to plan and arrange the flower beds away from doors, windows and walls, and do not pile up debris close to the walls, so as to reduce the possibility of centipedes entering the house.

Centipedes often enter the room through gaps such as doors, windows and walls. Centipedes are nocturnal creatures, so it is important to close doors and windows tightly at night. Especially in the hot summer, many people open doors and windows to keep cool at night, which can easily allow centipedes to enter the house. If there are cracks in the wall, be sure to block them.

In addition to the preventive measures mentioned above, the most direct method is to expel or kill them. Sulfur fumigation, pyrethroid fumigation, DDT fumigation and other drug killing methods can kill centipedes quickly and effectively. However, these drugs are toxic to humans and animals and are often not suitable for human living environments, only for houses such as unmanned warehouses.

If you want to drive away centipedes, you can use mugwort or chili to smoke indoors, or you can sprinkle realgar wine on the ground and in the corners where centipedes hide, and then leave a gap in the door for the centipedes to escape; near the doors and windows outdoors, you can sprinkle quicklime, sulfur, realgar wine, etc.

Aerosol insecticides that kill pests such as mosquitoes and cockroaches can effectively kill common small centipedes. Some large centipedes cannot be killed, but the smell can repel them. This type of insecticide is also low in toxicity, so it is also very suitable for home environments. It should be noted that when using aerosol insecticide to deal with centipedes, you cannot use a small amount like you do to kill cockroaches. You must use two to three times the amount you usually use to kill cockroaches in order to effectively kill or expel them. When using, spray vigorously at the place where the centipede is hiding. If you just want to kill it, close the doors and windows; if you want to expel it, leave a crack in the door for it to escape.

Centipedes like to eat chicken and eggs, so you can use chicken and other foods to lure or trap centipedes. If you want to trap and kill centipedes, you can apply rat poison or other toxic substances on chicken and throw it in places where centipedes appear. If you are trapping, first make a tight wire bag or wire cage, then put the chicken and other things in the cage, put the cage in the place where centipedes appear, and then observe quietly, and when you see the centipedes go in, close the cage in time.

If we want to know how to prevent centipedes from appearing at home, it is very necessary for us to have a certain understanding of the living habits of centipedes, especially the environment they like to exist in. If the home meets such requirements, it will naturally be easy for centipedes to come to the door. However, some measures can still be taken to avoid this problem, and you can try these methods.
