The Trial Measures for Maternity Insurance for Enterprise Employees stipulates:

The proportion of maternity insurance premiums shall be determined by the local people's government based on the number of planned births and maternity allowances, maternity medical expenses and other expenses, and may be adjusted in a timely manner according to the expenditure situation, but shall not exceed one percent of the total salary.

Employees do not pay maternity insurance premiums individually.

What is the use of maternity insurance?

Female employees are entitled to maternity leave in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations. The maternity allowance during maternity leave is calculated based on the enterprise’s employees’ average monthly salary in the previous year and is paid from the maternity insurance fund.

The examination fees, delivery fees, surgery fees, hospitalization fees and medicine expenses for female employees' childbirth are paid by the maternity insurance fund. Medical service fees and medicine expenses (including the expenses of self-paid medicines and nutritional medicines) that exceed the prescribed amount shall be borne by the employees themselves.

After a female employee is discharged from the hospital after giving birth, the medical expenses for diseases caused by childbirth will be paid by the maternity insurance fund; the medical expenses for other diseases will be handled in accordance with the provisions of medical insurance benefits. After the maternity leave of a female employee expires, if she needs rest and treatment due to illness, the procedure shall be handled in accordance with the relevant provisions on sick leave and medical insurance benefits.

After a female employee gives birth or has an abortion, she or her employer must go to the local social insurance agency with a family planning certificate issued by the local family planning department and a certificate of birth, death or abortion to receive maternity benefits and reimbursement of maternity medical expenses.

The maternity insurance fund is collected, paid and managed by the social insurance agency under the labor department.
