What is the reason for straight lines on nails

Normal people's nails look very smooth and have no lines. They are white with a hint of pink. If we have some skin diseases or nutritional problems, our nails may be uneven. Such nails do not look particularly optical and are very dark. So what is the reason for the straight lines on the nails?

Vertical lines on the fingernails are a common problem in clinical practice. Fingernails should be smooth and shiny. In many cases, vertical lines are a physiological manifestation and have no special meaning. What we need to pay attention to is that some vertical or horizontal lines, such as those caused by trauma, will appear. Another type that needs more attention is nail malnutrition, which is caused by the lack of some vitamins and trace elements. In this case, you can go to the hospital to consult some specialist doctors, or use some drugs for treatment.

Here are some abnormal nail phenomena:

1. Clubbing: The nail is significantly arched upward and curved around the finger. Nail clubbing may indicate emphysema, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, ulcerative colitis, or cirrhosis of the liver.

2. Blue Crescent: If the crescent-shaped white mark at the base of the nail has a blue halo, it may indicate any of the following conditions: obstructed blood circulation, heart disease, Raynaud's syndrome, vascular spasm of the fingers and toes, usually due to cold exposure. But it is sometimes associated with rheumatoid arthritis or the autoimmune disease lupus erythematosus.

3. Spoon-shaped nails: The middle of the nail is sunken, and the entire nail becomes flat or spoon-shaped. This type of nails is related to iron deficiency anemia, syphilis, thyroid disorders, rheumatic fever, etc.

4. Lindsay's nails: The half of the nail near the tip is pink or brown, and the half near the nail is white. This type of nail is also known as two-part nails, which may be a sign of chronic renal failure.

5. Beau's lines: Horizontal grooves on the nails indicate malnutrition or some serious illness that temporarily affects nail growth, such as measles, rib inflammation, or sudden heart attack.
