What are the dangers of frequent hair dyeing

Young people nowadays pursue fashion and change their hair color as their mood changes to fully display their beauty and personality. Although beauty is everyone's pursuit, it is undeniable that chemical hair dyes, while satisfying people's love of beauty, are also devouring people's health. It is like a privacy killer, endangering our health all the time. So for the sake of health, try to avoid dyeing your hair!

1. Carcinogenicity

Dr. Ames of the American Academy of Sciences tested 169 chemical hair dyes and found that 150 of them contained carcinogenic ingredients, accounting for 88% of the total. For example, among the commonly used oxidative hair dyes, there is a substance called aminoanisole, which has a strong ability to cause genetic mutations and can easily accumulate in the human body, becoming a breeding ground for cancer cells. For example, hair dyes all contain a chemical ingredient called "azo dye". Without this ingredient, it is difficult for hair dye to color the hair. Even if it can be colored, it will not be permanent and will fall off in a day or two. However, this "azo dye" can easily cause bladder cancer. According to research, people who use hair dye for more than a year only need their skin to absorb 1% of carcinogenic chemicals to be at risk of cancer.

2. Allergenicity

The key raw materials of chemical hair dyes, p-phenylenediamine (PPD) and p-toluenediamine (PTD), are the main allergens that cause allergic reactions. The EU stipulates that the maximum concentration of PPD in hair dyes is 6%. The Cosmetic Raw Materials Review Expert Group of the American Cosmetic Toiletries and Fragrance Products Association concluded through evaluation that p-phenylenediamine is a known sensitizer and may cause allergies in some people even if used correctly. When an allergic reaction occurs in a person who dyes their hair, the part of the body that was exposed to the dye will become itchy, and develop red spots, papules, and even blisters, swelling, exudate, sulfur water, and an unpleasant odor. Some severe allergies can lead to death. The incidence of hair dye allergy in the normal population is as high as 4%, which means that 4 out of 100 people are allergic.

3. Damaged hair

Chemical hair dyes contain strong alkaline ammonia, which causes the hair to lose its original sulfur component (desulfurization) to facilitate the next chemical reaction, but it will irritate the scalp, causing more white hair to appear the more you dye it, more hair loss, frizzy hair, and split ends.

In the above article, we mainly introduced in detail the dangers of frequent hair dyeing. Hair dyeing can indeed cause certain harm to our physical health. It can also cause allergies in some people, or irritate our scalp, making the hair dry and dull, and nutrients and moisture will also be lost. Therefore, it is recommended that you avoid long-term and frequent use of hair dye for the sake of your health.
