The principle of liver detoxification function

We know that the liver is one of the most important organs in our human body. One of the main functions of the liver is to detoxify our body. Most of the harmful substances metabolized in our body and some antigenic substances of microorganisms are cleared by the liver. So what are the principles and functions of liver detoxification? Let’s learn about it today.

During the body's metabolism, the portal vein collects blood flowing from the abdominal cavity. Harmful substances and microbial antigenic substances in the blood will be detoxified and eliminated in the liver. The liver is the main detoxification organ of the human body. It can protect the body from damage and turn poisons into relatively non-toxic or highly soluble substances, which are excreted from the body with bile or urine.

The principle of liver detoxification function: During the body's metabolism, the portal vein collects blood flowing from the abdominal cavity. There are four main ways that the liver detoxifies:

(1) Chemical methods: such as oxidation, reduction, decomposition, combination and deoxygenation. Ammonia is a toxic metabolite. Its detoxification is mainly through the synthesis of urea in the liver and excretion in the urine. Toxic substances can be transformed into non-toxic substances by combining with glucuronic acid, sulfuric acid, amino acids, etc.

(2) Secretory effect: Some heavy metals such as mercury and bacteria from the intestine can be excreted with bile secretion.

(3) Accumulation effect: Certain bioalkalis such as thiabendazole and morphine can accumulate in the liver, and then the liver gradually releases these substances in small amounts to reduce the poisoning process.

(4) Phagocytosis: If the liver is damaged, the human body is prone to poisoning or infection. Liver cells contain a large number of Kupffer cells, which have strong phagocytic ability and play a role in phagocytosing pathogens to protect the liver.

It can be seen that the liver is very important to us humans. If there is an abnormality in the liver, it will cause great harm to our health and life. Therefore, we must take good care of our liver in our daily life, especially smoking and drinking less, eating less irritating food, and ensuring good sleep, which are very important for the liver.
