How many days does it take for swelling to go down after adenoids surgery

In order to avoid adenoids swelling, some people will remove the tonsils. Because adenoids are part of our body's tonsils, their swelling will occur frequently, so removing them can avoid future throat pain. However, this surgery is also dangerous and will affect breathing after the surgery. So how many days will it take for the swelling to subside after adenoids surgery?

Combined with the patient's condition, we need to consider the situation after gland removal. Generally, it takes one week to be pain-free. Secondly, spicy and irritating foods should not be eaten.

Adenoids, also known as pharyngeal tonsils, are a group of lymphoid tissues, similar to (palatal) tonsils, attached to the posterior wall of the nasopharynx. If infected during childhood, the adenoids can become swollen and inflamed, and may also become permanently enlarged. Enlarged adenoids can hinder nasal breathing and affect sinus drainage, making one more susceptible to sinusitis. It can also block the Eustachian duct (otitis, the passage from the nasopharyngeal head to the middle ear), leading to middle ear infection.

Pharyngeal tonsil hyperplasia. Adenoid hypertrophy in children is usually physiological. Babies have lymphatic tissue in the nasopharynx when they are born, and it proliferates with age, reaching its maximum at the age of 6, and then gradually degenerates. It is only when it affects the health of the whole body or adjacent organs that it is called adenoid hypertrophy.

Repeated stimulation from inflammation of the nasopharynx and its adjacent areas or inflammation of the adenoids themselves causes pathological proliferation of the adenoids. Common causes include repeated attacks of acute and chronic nasopharyngitis, various acute infectious diseases in childhood, etc. Inflammation of the nose and sinuses can also affect the adenoids through their mucous membranes; conversely, enlarged adenoids can block the posterior nasal cavity and aggravate inflammation of the nose and sinuses. This disease is prone to occur in cold and humid areas, so cold and humidity may be its cause. Children over 5 years old with adenoid hypertrophy often have chronic tonsillitis.

Causes

Children are prone to acute rhinitis, acute tonsillitis, and influenza. If the symptoms recur, the adenoids may rapidly proliferate and hypertrophy, aggravating nasal obstruction and obstructing nasal drainage. The secretions from rhinitis and sinusitis will stimulate the adenoids to continue to proliferate, forming a vicious cycle of cause and effect. It is more common in children and often coexists with chronic tonsillitis.
