What to do if the surgical incision is infected

What to do if the surgical incision is infected

After the operation, there will usually be some wounds left at the incision site. If the postoperative care is not done properly, the wound is likely to become infected. Of course, wound infection must not be ignored. Otherwise, the more serious the wound infection, the greater the impact on human health. So, how to care for a surgical wound infection? This will be introduced below!

1. Clean the wound

When we fall, if the place where we fall is covered with sand and stones, then the wound on the leg will be mixed with mud and sand. At this time, the wound needs to be cleaned first. The water used to clean the wound can be clean tap water, or salt water with an appropriate amount of salt added. The wound needs to be rinsed with cold water or warm water while using a cotton swab to clean off the mud and sand on the wound until there is no foreign matter in the wound.

2. After cleaning the wound, disinfect the wound

After cleaning the wound, if you have iodine or alcohol at home, you can use a cotton swab, cotton cloth, or cotton ball to dip a little iodine or alcohol and gently wipe the surface of the wound to disinfect the wound. If you don't have this type of wound disinfectant at home, you can squeeze a little toothpaste on the wound and gently spread the toothpaste evenly on the wound with your fingers, which can also have a certain disinfecting effect.

3. After cleaning and disinfecting the wound, bandage it

After cleaning and disinfecting the wound, it needs to be bandaged with a bandage or gauze to prevent it from getting dirty or wet. It should be noted that abrasions or burns should not be treated with Band-Aids. Instead, they should be properly bandaged with breathable gauze. Try not to tie the wound tightly when bandaging it, otherwise the blood circulation in the wound may be blocked, leading to wound necrosis.

4. You can take some anti-inflammatory drugs appropriately

If the wound has shown signs of infection and inflammation due to not being treated promptly, you can take an appropriate amount of anti-inflammatory drugs, such as antibiotics or anti-herpes drugs. Just remember not to overdose. Refer to the instructions in the drug package and take it regularly and in regular amounts. If the wound has been properly treated and there are no signs of inflammation, it is still not recommended to take anti-inflammatory drugs indiscriminately.
