What are the dangers of saturated fatty acids?

Saturated fat is a component of lipids. Its carbon chain does not contain saturated bonds. It is generally found in animal fat and also in a few plants. Some people say that saturated fat supplementation is harmful, but what are the harms? Saturated fatty acids are the most abundant in the fat market of livestock meat, so, what are the harms of saturated fatty acids? Today, let's discuss the harms of saturated fat supplementation.

Fatty acids that do not contain double bonds are called saturated fatty acids. A type of fatty acid that does not have unsaturated bonds (double bonds) in its carbon chain and is one of the basic components of lipids. Excessive intake of saturated fatty acids is the main cause of increased blood cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-C, which subsequently causes narrowing of the arterial lumen, formation of atherosclerosis, and increased risk of coronary heart disease.

Saturated fatty acids are very stable and not easily oxidized because they do not have unsaturated bonds; unsaturated fatty acids, especially polyunsaturated fatty acids, are unstable and easily susceptible to lipid peroxidation because of the increased number of unsaturated bonds. Saturated fatty acids (SFA) are fatty acids containing saturated bonds.

Saturated fatty acids in the diet are mostly found in animal fats and milk fat, which are also rich in cholesterol. Excessive intake of saturated fatty acids is the main cause of increased blood cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), which in turn causes narrowing of the arterial lumen, the formation of atherosclerosis, and increases the risk of coronary heart disease.

Therefore, if you eat more saturated fatty acids, you will inevitably eat more cholesterol. Experimental studies have found that after eating a large amount of saturated fatty acids, the activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase in the liver increases, which increases cholesterol synthesis. Plants rich in saturated fatty acids include coconut oil, cottonseed oil and cocoa butter.

Through the above materials, everyone should clearly know the harm of saturated fatty acids. If you consume too much saturated fatty acids, it will lead to high blood pressure, high fat, and high blood cholesterol, which is very harmful to the human body. Therefore, people should strictly control the intake of saturated fatty acids and eat some foods that reduce saturated fatty acids to reduce its harm to the body.
