Storage of black tea

Storage of black tea

Every food has a shelf life, and tea is no exception. Preservatives are added during the processing of black tea, but these preservatives will become ineffective over time, so you must pay attention to the storage method of black tea. You can put the black tea in an iron box to isolate it from the air to prevent the enzymes in the black tea from reacting chemically with the oxygen in the air, which may occasionally produce other substances that are harmful to the human body. Here are some ways to store black tea.

During the processing of black tea, a chemical reaction centered on enzymatic oxidation of tea polyphenols occurs. The chemical composition of the fresh leaves changes significantly, with tea polyphenols reduced by more than 90% and new components such as theaflavins and thearubigins produced. Therefore, black tea has the characteristics of black tea, red soup, red leaves and sweet and mellow taste. Among my country's black tea varieties, Keemun black tea is the most famous and is the second largest type of tea in my country.

How long can black tea be stored?

Black tea is a fully fermented tea and has a longer shelf life than green tea. It is a tea made from suitable new leaves of tea trees, which is refined through a series of processes including withering, rolling, fermentation, and drying. Withering is an important process in the initial processing of black tea. Black tea is called "black tea" during the initial processing.

How long black tea can be stored has a lot to do with how it is stored. The flavor and aroma of tea will gradually disappear after it is opened, but the correct storage method can delay the fading of flavor and aroma. Generally, it can be sealed and placed in a dry, low-temperature, and odor-free place.

Secondly, how long black tea can be stored is also related to the packaging method. Generally speaking: bulk about 18 months; bagged about 24 months; canned or wrapped in aluminum foil about 36 months.

Even if black tea is expired, you can still drink it as long as it is not moldy, but it will no longer have the original wonderful taste. The above shelf life range is given for your reference based on the packaging method. However, if some manufacturers print the shelf life of black tea on the packaging shell, the shelf life given by the manufacturer shall prevail.

However, no matter how long the shelf life is, it is best to drink it within six months to a year after opening, because the quality and taste of the black tea are at their best at that time.
