How to treat erythema nodosum on the legs

How to treat erythema nodosum on the legs

Erythema nodosum is a skin disease that, once present, affects not only a person's appearance but also their physical body. The most common part where this happens is the legs. At this time, the most popular method is to apply some ointment, that is, to treat it with medicine, and the effect is relatively good. But some people still want to know how to treat erythema nodosum on the legs?

treat

1. Systemic treatment

(1) Find the cause and provide appropriate treatment. During the acute phase, you can rest in bed, elevate the affected limb, and avoid cold and strenuous labor. For those with obvious infection foci, antibiotics can be used in combination.

(2) For patients with more severe pain, oral analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as indomethacin (Indomethacin) and ibuprofen, can be taken. For those with obvious infection, give antibiotics. In severe cases, corticosteroids, such as prednisone (Kedison) or betamethasone/betamethasone dipropionate (Diprosone), can be given by intramuscular injection once every 3 weeks to quickly control the disease. In addition, 10% potassium iodide mixture can be used, 3 times a day, for 2 to 4 weeks. This method is safe and effective, but it should be noted that long-term use may lead to hypothyroidism. For patients with stubborn illness, hydroxychloroquine and dapsone can be used, or the Chinese medicine Tripterygium wilfordii tablets or Kunming Shanhaisu tablets can be taken. Systemic treatment can also be done with ultraviolet light, wax therapy, diathermy or audio-frequency electrotherapy.

2. Local treatment

The principles of local treatment are anti-inflammatory and analgesic. For external use, fish boron ointment, 10% camphor ointment or 75% alcohol local wet compress can be used. In addition, corticosteroid ointment can be applied externally to relieve pain. You can also inject about 0.3 ml of triamcinolone suspension added to 2% procaine solution into the skin lesions, which has a significant effect on those with persistent and severe pain in the nodules.

Causes

The cause of this disease is complex and is generally believed to be related to infection, drugs, estrogen and other diseases.

1. Streptococcal infection

In some patients, it may occur after upper respiratory tract infection, pharyngitis, and acute tonsillitis.

2. Tuberculosis infection

There is increasing evidence that the disease is closely related to tuberculosis infection. According to domestic statistics, more than 60% of people are simultaneously infected with tuberculosis, have old tuberculosis lesions, or have a positive tuberculin test. It is believed that the disease is an allergic reaction of the body to tuberculosis bacteria or its toxins.

3. Medication

Certain drugs, especially bromides, sulfonamides, and oral contraceptives, are the most common causes of this disease.

4. This disease is a skin allergy caused by many reasons, and the true pathogenesis is still unclear. Some people believe that the disease is a delayed hypersensitivity reaction of blood vessels to microorganisms or other antigens.

5. Other diseases

Other diseases such as autoimmune diseases, ulcerative colitis, sarcoidosis, etc. may be accompanied by erythema nodosum. In addition, acute and chronic leukemia may also be associated with this disease.

The above-introduced methods are all very effective in treating erythema nodosum on the legs, and are also the answers obtained by many patients in actual situations. Generally, the body is prone to problems in summer, especially some skin diseases. At this time, patients must receive timely treatment to avoid aggravating the condition over a long period of time.
