What is the cause of idiopathic multiple sclerosis

What is the cause of idiopathic multiple sclerosis

There will always be many diseases in a person's life. With the development of society, many medical conditions are constantly improving. However, there are still some diseases that we do not understand, one of which is idiopathic multiple sclerosis. The impact on the human body is huge. After all, diseases are usually caused by problems in some part of the body. So, what causes idiopathic multiple sclerosis?

The cause of multiple sclerosis is still unclear, but most researchers believe that the most important cause is the immune system. Perhaps the disease stems from a genetic problem with the immune system, or perhaps a virus stimulates the body to produce an active immune response, in which the immune system damages its own tissues. Some have also postulated that some physical trauma or extreme emotional fluctuations that affect the immune system can trigger multiple sclerosis.

In addition, many people believe that dietary factors may also be a cause of the disease. Others believe that people in the northern region like to eat high-gluten, meat, milk and fatty foods. Multiple sclerosis patients have a lower ability to absorb unsaturated fatty acids than normal people. Unsaturated fatty acids play an important role in the body's processing of all food and saturated fats. The result is an excess of saturated fat in their system, so many therapeutic diets have been designed to correct these imbalances, depending on the patient's condition, and have been successful. There is no single diet that can be used as a treatment.

Some scholars also suspect that environmental factors are the cause of multiple sclerosis. Mainly include: pesticides, mineral veins, chemicals in tap water, gases emitted by diesel engines, chemical solvents, gases emitted by household gas water heaters, carbon monoxide pollution, etc.

Clinical manifestations

Multiple sclerosis lesions are relatively diffuse, so the symptoms and signs are also more complex, and may cause neuritis, retrobulbar neuritis, ophthalmoplegia, limb paralysis, pyramidal tract signs and mental symptoms. When the lesion is located in the cerebellum, ataxia, limb tremors, and nystagmus may occur. The lesion invades the medial longitudinal fasciculus and causes persistent, irregular, involuntary ocular muscle spasms of various patterns. If unexplained vertigo and vertical nystagmus occur, especially in young patients, if acute vertigo and vertical nystagmus persist after the vertigo stops, this disease should be considered.

In the early stages of the disease, there may be fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss and vertigo. Due to the multiple lesions, the symptoms are complex and vary depending on the location of the lesions. If there are areas of demyelination or sclerotic plaques in the brainstem and cerebellum, which damage the vestibular nuclei or structures connected to the vestibule, the clinical manifestations are persistent vertigo, which worsens when turning the head and is accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Tinnitus and deafness are less common. Some patients have nystagmus, which can take many forms. It is also common for vertical nystagmus to be accompanied by pendulum-like, beating, and horizontal nystagmus. The fast phase of this nystagmus is directed in the direction of gaze.

To sum up, we also know that some experts believe that idiopathic multiple sclerosis is still closely related to problems with the body's immune system. If you feel that you have the symptoms described above, you must go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time to avoid unnecessary trouble.
