What is the reference value for pituitary prolactin?

The human brain is a very complex thing. It controls the organs of the whole body and occupies a very important position in the human body. The brain secretes a variety of substances, which are closely related to various organs of the body. Once these substances become abnormal, the body will also show corresponding symptoms. For example, pituitary prolactin is one of these substances. What is the normal value of this substance?

First, pituitary prolactin is a polypeptide hormone, also called prolactin (PRL), which is one of the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. In the late stages of pregnancy and lactation, the pituitary gland secretes prolactin vigorously to promote breast development and lactation. As for the reference value of pituitary prolactin, the normal value of pituitary prolactin for women of childbearing age should be 5-25ng/ml. If pituitary prolactin is >35 ng/ml, it means that pituitary prolactin is elevated.

Second, the adverse effects of elevated pituitary prolactin:

1. Menstrual irregularities: 4% for primary amenorrhea, 89% for secondary amenorrhea, 7% for oligomenorrhea or too little menstruation. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding and luteal dysfunction account for 23% to 77%. Ovulatory dysfunction and luteal insufficiency are manifested by oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea and infertility, which are the most common symptoms. Other related symptoms include habitual abortion, loss of libido, hirsutism, acne, etc. Gynecological examination may reveal symptoms of estrogen deficiency, such as dry vaginal mucosa and decreased secretions.

2. Galactorrhea: Milk can be seen by squeezing both breasts, and fat droplets can be seen under the microscope. In non-tumor type, it is 20.84%. 70.52% of the tumor type. Simple galactorrhea: 63-83.55%. The breasts are usually normal or with lobular hyperplasia or macromastia.

3. Osteopenia: Long-term decrease in estrogen levels due to HP can cause a decrease in bone density.

4. When there is a high level of prolactin, visual impairment, nervous system diseases, hypopituitarism, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea and other diseases may occur.

The above is some information about pituitary prolactin. I believe now everyone knows the reference value of this substance. Moreover, once this substance is abnormally high, it will cause many adverse effects. For example, for women, symptoms such as irregular menstruation will occur, and some will even experience amenorrhea, so everyone must pay attention to this situation.
