Why do people get thyroid disease?

Thyroid diseases are more serious in the summer and are more likely to recur. The symptoms will weaken in the winter, so patients should pay attention to avoiding the heat. Thyroid disease is caused by many reasons and is an endocrine disease. Patients will eat more, but their bodies are relatively thin, they will sweat a lot, have trembling hands, bulging eyes, etc. The incidence of thyroid disease is still very high. So, why do they get thyroid disease?

Thyroid enlargement can be divided into three degrees: Grade I, where the enlargement cannot be seen but can be felt; Grade II, where the enlargement can be seen and felt but is within the sternocleidomastoid muscle; and Grade III, where the enlargement exceeds the outer edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Common diseases that cause goiter include:

1. The enlarged thyroid gland of hyperthyroidism is soft in texture and may vibrate when palpated. A "buzzing" vascular murmur may be heard. This is the result of an increase in the number and thickness of blood vessels and an increase in blood flow.

2. Simple goiter is a prominent enlargement of the gland, which may be diffuse or nodular, without any signs of hyperthyroidism.

3. When palpated, the mass of thyroid cancer may feel nodular, irregular and hard. Because it develops slowly and is sometimes small in size, it is easy to be confused with thyroid adenoma and anterior cervical lymph node enlargement.

4. Chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis (Hashimoto's thyroiditis) presents diffuse or nodular swelling, which can be easily confused with thyroid cancer. Since the enlarged inflammatory glands can push the common carotid artery backwards, the pulsation of the common carotid artery can be felt at the posterior edge of the gland. However, thyroid cancer often surrounds the common carotid artery in the cancerous tissue, and the pulsation of the common carotid artery cannot be felt during palpation. This can be used for differentiation.

5. Parathyroid adenoma The parathyroid glands are located behind the thyroid gland. When an adenoma occurs, the thyroid gland may protrude and move with swallowing during examination. It needs to be differentiated from the clinical manifestations of hyperparathyroidism.

The most common triggering factors are: (1) Infection: such as colds, tonsillitis, pneumonia, etc. (2) Trauma: such as car accidents, trauma, etc. (3) Mental stimulation: such as mental tension, anxiety, etc. (4) Excessive fatigue: such as overwork, etc. (5) Pregnancy: Early pregnancy may induce or aggravate the condition. (6) Excessive iodine intake: such as eating excessive amounts of kelp and other seafood. (7) Family genetic factors - Family genetic enzyme defects can cause thyroid hormone synthesis disorders, leading to goiter and hypothyroidism. (8) Autoimmune factors: Toxic diffuse goiter, commonly known as hyperthyroidism in clinical practice, is the most common. It is mainly caused by autoimmune processes and mental stimulation. Among the causes of hypothyroidism, chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, also known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis. It is also an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is damaged by inflammation, resulting in hypothyroidism. (9) Iatrogenic factors: Surgery, radioactive iodine, drugs for treating hyperthyroidism, etc., if not treated properly, can all cause hypothyroidism; and excessive use of thyroxine can cause drug-induced hyperthyroidism.

Thyroid patients should not eat foods containing iodine, such as kelp, seaweed, etc., and should eat less cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage and cauliflower. They should not smoke or drink, as these will cause the patient's body to become hyperactive, mentally tense, and aggravate the condition. You cannot stay up late or overwork. You must go to bed before 11 o'clock every night and take a nap at noon.
