How to prevent concussion in the elderly?

Concussion is a disease we are familiar with, which is mainly caused by impact on the brain. Concussions can affect people of all ages, and sometimes occur as a result of unexpected circumstances. Concussion can seriously affect people's normal life. Generally, there will be symptoms such as headache, nausea, and dizziness. Once discovered, it needs timely treatment, otherwise it will cause other diseases. As the elderly get older, they are more likely to suffer from concussion, so timely prevention should be carried out. How to prevent concussion in the elderly?

Concussion can be diagnosed based on the symptoms and signs after the injury. Since the brain injury is relatively mild, the treatment is mainly symptomatic. For example, those with headaches are given analgesics, and those who vomit significantly and cannot eat are given infusions. In addition, it is advisable to rest quietly in the early stage after the injury, think less about problems and read newspapers, and pay attention to reducing adverse stimulation to the patient. Most cases of this disease can be cured after a few days or weeks of treatment.

Since this disease can coexist with intracranial hematoma, it is best to stay in the hospital for observation and treatment for a period of time (about 5 days) after the injury. Once intracranial hematoma is found, it can be diagnosed and treated in time. For patients who return home, their relatives and friends should closely observe the patient's state of consciousness within 1-2 days, paying attention to symptoms such as headache, vomiting, and restlessness. If the condition worsens, they should immediately go to the hospital for a CT scan to clarify the diagnosis.

Due to damage to brain tissue caused by head trauma, the patient initially suffers from loss of consciousness. After recovery, the patient often has symptoms such as amnesia, retrograde amnesia, Korsakoff syndrome, neurasthenia, and personality changes. This change in brain tissue that is not visible to the naked eye is called a concussion. Damage to part of the brain tissue is called cerebral contusion. Concussion may be a unique symptom caused by complete dysfunction of brain tissue. The pathogenesis may be due to disorders of cerebral blood circulation, cerebrospinal fluid circulation in the subarachnoid space and medulla oblongata.

Common symptoms are temporary confusion or loss of consciousness immediately after a head injury, which can last from a few seconds to twenty to thirty minutes. The patient returns to normal after waking up, but has unclear memory of the circumstances and course of the injury. In addition, headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, etc. may also occur. Concussion is the mildest type of craniocerebral injury and can usually heal on its own with bed rest and symptomatic treatment. However, during the diagnosis and treatment process, attention should be paid to whether there are more serious cerebral contusions and skull hematomas.

From the above content, we know how to prevent concussion in the elderly. Therefore, whether old or young, we need to be prepared to prevent various diseases in advance and not let the disease have the possibility of harming our body. Therefore, it is recommended that everyone should pay more attention to their daily life routine, supplement the body's resistance, and ensure a healthy body.
