Does gastric bleeding require a gastroscopy?

We always hear people talking about gastric bleeding, but many people don’t know what kind of disease gastric bleeding is. They think that it is just a symptom of bleeding, just like bleeding on the skin, and will not cause much harm. In fact, gastric bleeding is medically referred to as gastrointestinal bleeding, which is the most standard name. Gastric bleeding is a serious disease and can be fatal. So, does gastric bleeding require a gastroscopy?

Gastric bleeding can be treated with gastroscopy, which can help you find the bleeding site and perform endoscopic hemostasis treatment if necessary.

The main purpose of doing a gastroscopy is to clearly see the condition of the stomach. If necessary, a biopsy and a slice can be taken for a look. This is safer. A regular gastroscopy will be a little uncomfortable, like a feeling of nausea, but it goes on very quickly and will pass after a while. If you are worried about discomfort, you can do a painless gastroscopy, under intravenous general anesthesia, just a sleep, and you won't feel anything, but it costs several hundred dollars more.

Three types of gastric bleeding:

1. Acute massive bleeding: vomiting of large amounts of fresh blood, black or dark red bloody stools, accompanied by environmental disorders and severe anemia, hypotension or shock symptoms may occur, and emergency treatment is often required. Delayed diagnosis and treatment can often lead to death.

2. Chronic occult bleeding: blood in the stool cannot be observed with the naked eye, and there are no obvious clinical symptoms. Only laboratory tests confirm that the stool is positive for occult blood.

3. Chronic overt bleeding: bright red, coffee-colored vomitus or black stools can be observed with the naked eye, and there is no history of circulatory disorders clinically.

For patients with gastric bleeding, regardless of whether the condition is serious or not, they need to go to the hospital for treatment immediately and be hospitalized if necessary. In addition to treatment, you should also take care of your body and avoid eating irritating and spicy foods. As long as you cooperate with the doctor's treatment and maintain an optimistic attitude, gastric bleeding can still be cured.
