Do you know the developmental standards for adolescents

We are actually paying more and more attention to the development of adolescents. In recent years, parents have been looking for a standard for adolescent development, because through this standard they can know whether their children are normal among their peers. So what exactly is such a standard?

Adolescence is a period of rapid physical development until an individual reaches maturity. Children in this stage experience significant changes in their physical, psychological and social development. Its main feature is rapid and unbalanced physical and mental development. It is a period of complex development and full of contradictions, so it is also called a difficult period or a crisis period.

Weight for height: Also known as "standard weight for height" in China. It is an indicator actively recommended by WHO, focusing on reflecting the current nutritional status of children. It compares weight under conditions of equal height and can effectively eliminate the impact of differences in body development caused by gender, development level, genetics, racial differences, etc. before puberty. It is easy to use and the nutritional level evaluated is accurate, sensitive and objective. The reference values recommended by WHO for children can be used by both boys and girls; however, gender-specific standards should be used for those over 3 years old.

The "Standard Weight for Height in 1985" still in use in some areas of my country is obviously lagging behind the current growth and development level of Chinese children and adolescents; continued use will lead to a large number of misscreening and missed screening, and should be replaced in a timely manner with the "2000 Chinese Students' Weight for Height" standard (revised version). Currently in developed countries, weight-for-height has gradually been replaced by BMI standards for overweight and obesity screening among school-age children and adolescents. Height for age: It is a method of comparing height based on age. Usually, the "WHO height for age" standard can be used for pre-adolescent children.

Therefore, standards must be established. Many times people can refer to some methods to check the health status of their children. Of course, there are many other ways to test health status. People who are interested can search online. Many times it will bring you unexpected surprises. I hope the above content can be helpful to everyone.
