It cannot be seen directly by the naked eye and must be detected with a probe to know its deposition location and amount. The main source of inorganic salts in subgingival calculus is gingival crevicular fluid.

The harm of tartar to periodontal tissue is mainly that it creates a good environment for plaque attachment and bacterial growth.

3. Traumatic occlusion

When biting, if the bite force is too large or the direction is abnormal, it exceeds the combined force that the periodontal tissue can withstand, causing damage to the periodontal tissue. This is called traumatic occlusion. Traumatic occlusion includes premature contact during occlusion, occlusal interference, and nocturnal bruxism.

4. Others

Factors including food impaction, poor restorations, and mouth breathing also contribute to inflammation of periodontal tissues.
