How to relieve pain in patients with syringomyelia

Cases of syringomyelia have become more and more common recently, and the search rate on Baidu is also getting higher and higher. This disease has already seriously endangered our health. However, people still don’t know much about this disease, which makes them very confused. So how do you relieve pain in patients with syringomyelia? Let me explain it to you today.

Due to the influence of various reasons, a tubular cavity is formed in the spinal cord, which is called syringomyelia. There is often glial hyperplasia around the cavity. The disease develops relatively slowly, and its clinical manifestations are symptoms of nerve damage in the affected spinal cord segments, characterized by dissociated sensory disorders with decreased and absent pain and temperature sensation and preserved deep sensation, as well as movement disorders and neurotrophic disorders caused by damage to the long tracts of the spinal cord.

Syringomyelia is a progressive myelopathy caused by various congenital or acquired factors that leads to cavity-like expansion of the spinal cord. The incidence rate is about 25-34/100,000, with a peak age of 31 to 50 years old. It is rare in children and the elderly. 1. Radiotherapy: It is rarely used nowadays because its efficacy is uncertain and lesions cannot be detected in time.

2. Rehabilitation training: Exercise appropriately and avoid strenuous movements that may cause increased venous pressure. By bending your torso and bringing your chest closer to your thighs, the risk of the cavity expanding can be greatly reduced. Preventive treatment starting from the embryonic period can prevent the occurrence of birth defects such as hindbrain malformations. Dietary folic acid supplementation during pregnancy can reduce the occurrence of certain birth defects.

3. Conservative treatment: Use traditional Chinese medicine and symptomatic treatment. Commonly used medicines include those that improve microcirculation, muscle relaxants, and intermittent hyperbaric oxygen therapy. These may have a certain effect on the recovery of nervous system function, such as traditional Chinese medicine treatment.

4. Surgical treatment: The main purpose is to drain the abnormally perfused fluid in the cavity and eliminate the cause of syringomyelia. The selection is based on the clinical manifestations and types of the cavity and combined with magnetic resonance imaging.

From the above we know that if the symptoms of syringomyelia really appear, we must pay great attention to it. If it is not treated in time, it will cause very serious consequences and the gain will not outweigh the loss. For your health and the happiness of your family, you must choose scientific and effective methods for treatment in time.
