Six foods that can cause headaches

Six foods that can cause headaches

The incidence of migraine is getting higher and higher, and diet is also one of the factors that cause migraine. The following are some common foods that are prone to cause migraine in daily life.

1. Coffee

The caffeine in coffee can stimulate the nervous system and interfere with sleep. Drinking too much can easily lead to addiction and form a habit. Once you stop drinking coffee, it will trigger migraines. Therefore, for those who are used to drinking coffee, the amount of coffee they consume per day should be less than 100 mg.

2. Sugar Substitutes

The so-called "sugar substitute foods" refer to foods that do not contain sugar but contain "sugar substitutes" to make the food taste sweet, thereby reducing people's sugar intake. Sugar substitutes are a good choice for diabetics, but not for migraine sufferers.

Studies have found that the sweetener "aspartame" can over-stimulate or interfere with nerve endings, increase muscle tension and trigger migraines. Diet cola, diet soda, sugar-free chewing gum, and ice cream all contain aspartame. Therefore, for people who are sensitive to "sugar substitutes", just taking a sip of low-sugar soda will cause a headache.

It is recommended that migraine patients pay attention to the food content labels on the product packaging. If the above-mentioned sugar substitutes are marked on it, they should try to avoid eating them. If they want to increase the sweetness of food or drinks, it is best to use honey instead of white sugar and sugar substitutes.

3. Sausages and hot dogs

Sausages, hot dogs, ham, bacon and other cured and smoked meats and processed meats have high nitrite content, so it is best to eat less of them in daily life.

4. MSG

It is a cooking habit of many people to add MSG when cooking or making soup, but foods containing too much MSG can cause you to have a migraine.

5. Red wine

All alcoholic beverages can trigger headaches, but red wine, in particular, contains more headache-inducing chemicals. If migraine sufferers really want to have a drink or two, it is best to choose colorless alcoholic beverages such as vodka and white wine.

6. Strong smell

Strong odors, such as perfume, cigarette smoke, paint, exhaust fumes, cleaning and chemical detergents, printing inks, etc., can trigger migraines. Therefore, it is best to open windows frequently for ventilation at home, and try to avoid places with strong irritating odors such as gas stations.
