The disadvantages of watching TV

The disadvantages of watching TV

People's lives nowadays are basically inseparable from television. Many families are accustomed to eating while watching TV. If there are children at home, this situation can easily lead to children watching TV instead of eating. Usually, parents need to urge them several times, or threaten to turn off the TV before they will eat a few bites of food. In fact, such living habits are very bad.

Watching TV every day is not only harmful to children, but also to adults. If they watch TV all day, there will be some bad effects, such as vision and weight. These are the disadvantages of watching TV. The specific disadvantages are:

1. Watching TV can cause obesity.

When watching TV, everyone likes to sit on a soft sofa, preferably with a drink of Coke, some snacks, and then sit still for a few hours. Little do people know that this is the easiest way to make you fat. A random survey result recently released by the Institute of Nutrition and Food Hygiene of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine shows that the obesity rate among children increases with the time they watch TV. On average, for every additional hour of TV watching time, the obesity rate increases by about 1.5%.

2. Television makes people less willing to use their brains and thus become stupid.

Some people call television a "machine for creating fools," and this is not an exaggeration. Children who are heavily dependent on television will inevitably suffer severe weakening in their language ability, abstract thinking ability, and especially their ability to master mathematical symbol systems.

3. Watching TV can easily lead to "television syndrome".

Children who love watching TV sometimes feel restless and find it difficult to calm down. Social psychologists call this condition "television syndrome." Children suffering from television syndrome cannot maintain continuous attention. They either sit still or cannot control their impulses. They become quarrelsome, talk constantly during class, and appear distracted.

4. Watching TV can easily cause myopia.

If primary school students watch too much TV, their eyesight will deteriorate. Among children aged 8 to 9, more than 55% of all patients suffer from myopia due to watching TV. The rays from television can damage the human retina, and the flicker caused by the alternating changes of hundreds of horizontal frequency scanning lines on the TV screen can cause optic nerve fatigue and aggravate eye damage.

All of the above can be said to be the disadvantages of watching TV. The disadvantages of watching TV are especially obvious in children, and may even lead to a decline in children's academic performance. Some violent TV scenes will also have a certain impact on children's psychology, especially for adolescent children, and may even lead children astray.
