Ribavirin side effects

Ribavirin side effects

As the name of the drug suggests, ribavirin is an antiviral drug. Although its efficacy and function are very good, it can effectively kill bacteria and viruses. In addition, it has obvious effects on some chronic viral infections, influenza, chickenpox and other diseases. However, these drugs are also prone to cause various adverse reactions and side effects when taken improperly. So what are the side effects of ribavirin?

In fact, the side effects of drugs such as ribavirin cannot be ignored. In addition to easily causing various discomfort symptoms throughout the body, such as nausea and vomiting, even headaches, fatigue, etc., severe cases can also lead to hemolytic anemia, etc. Therefore, this type of disease requires medication under the guidance of a doctor. Here are some side effects of ribavirin.

Viravirin, also known as ribavirin, triazole nucleoside, and niscor, is a broad-spectrum and powerful antiviral drug that is currently widely used in the prevention and treatment of viral diseases. Common dosage forms include injections, tablets, oral solutions, aerosols, etc.

principle

Ribavirin is a synthetic nucleoside antiviral drug. In vitro cell culture experiments showed that ribavirin has a selective inhibitory effect on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Ribavirin is a prodrug that interferes with the metabolism of RNA required for viral replication when the microbial genetic vectors resemble nucleotides of purine RNA. How exactly it affects viral replication is still unclear.

Physical and chemical properties: Melting point 174-176°C Water solubility>=10 g/100 mL at 19°C

Indications: Lassa fever, respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia in children, influenza A, B and parainfluenza virus infections, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, herpes simplex, measles, mumps, chickenpox, herpes zoster, etc.

Ribavirin side effects

Because ribavirin reacts within red blood cells, the main serious adverse reaction is hemolytic anemia, which may worsen pre-existing heart disease. Ribavirin normally inhibits glutathione, thereby damaging the cell membranes of red blood cells and causing the lysis of oxygen-depleted red blood cells. The gradual decrease in red blood cells can also lead to anemia. Anemia may be relieved by reducing the dosage. Ribavirin can also be teratogenic.

①Anemia and leukocytopenia. ② Rash, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal bleeding. ③Increased serum bilirubin.

Common systemic adverse reactions observed in clinical trials of this product include fatigue, headache, weakness, asthenia, chest pain, fever, chills, flu and other symptoms. Neurological symptoms: vertigo. The digestive system symptoms include loss of appetite, stomach discomfort, nausea and vomiting, mild diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, etc. The musculoskeletal system symptoms include muscle pain, joint pain, nervous system symptoms include insomnia, moodiness, irritability, depression, attention disorder, neurosis, etc. The respiratory system symptoms include difficulty breathing, rhinitis, etc. The skin and adnexal system symptoms include hair loss, rash, itching, etc. In addition, abnormal taste and hearing were also observed.

I believe everyone already knows about the side effects of ribavirin. Viruses are indeed suitable for various respiratory and skin diseases caused by viral infections, but ribavirin is not suitable for everyone. Some people will experience various uncomfortable symptoms after taking the medicine, such as fatigue, fever, and even stomach discomfort. Therefore, it is best to consult a doctor in advance before taking such medicines and take the medicine under the doctor's guidance.
